“Clean and comfortable but let down by the service.”

I stayed in the Hellaby Hall hotel with a group of friends and family for one night in April, in order to attend the two day assembly of Jehovahs Witnesses in the nearby convention hall. The hotel was very convieniently situated (the assembly hall just being on the other side of the carpark fence), the rooms were clean and comfortable with all the basic facilities (tv, kettle, hairdryer, ironing board etc.) the reception staff were friendly, and pool and gym facilities were excellent.
However, we were let down incredibly by the restaurant. Being tired after an early morning and long day we decided to go to the hotels Attic restaurant for our evening meal (£20 each for 3 courses, which was an incredible dissapointment to say the least. The food was very of very poor quality, and definatly not worth the money we paid for it, you could tell straight away it was all bought in and re-heated. As for the service, the waitresses in particular seemed incompetant and unorganised. When we asked if there was a childrens menu we were told that she didnt know and would get back to us, which she never did. When one of our desserts arrived, it was plonked on the table with "here you go, you're chocolate thing, oh i dont know what it is".
In the morning, we didnt get the wake-up call we had ordered, but fortunatly suspecting that would happen i had set the alarm on my phone.
Breakfast was marginaly better than the meal the night before, but the coffee was cold and food kept running out faster than they could fill it up. Maybe half the staff didnt show for work that morning, i dont know. But I certainly expected better.

Iv just realised how long this post is! I apologise, Im not usually the complaining type :)

“Always a disappointment”

Hellaby Hall Hotel

25 Feb 2007

Having an office near to this hotel this would be an ideal place to stay for convenience however each time I have stayed it has always disappointed.

The restaurant service and food is particularly disappointing. I have had occasions where the meat and vegetable have arrived ten minutes apart, when I have been told my bottle of wine has been put in the freezer to cool (!) and where the topping of a crumble wasn't cooked.

The rooms are generally basic but functional. The reception is warm and welcoming, there are some nice character rooms which are part of the old hall and the gym is well appointed.

This hotel is so close to being excellent but always just seems to miss.

“Not quite four star but great staff”

Hellaby Hall Hotel

WE booked this hotel primarily to accomdate a meeting with some people from abroad who had booked here. When we arrived we were told that despite having written confirmation of our booking there were no rooms. After a somewhat heated discussion with the Manager, we eventually secured our accomodation. Goodness knows what happened to the poor people who had not yet checked in!

We later learned that the reason for the double bookings and were satisfied that the circumstances were absolutely outwith the hotel's control

The hotel is struggling to justify its 4 star rating given the general state of repair and quality of accomodation. My room looked on to an industrial estate which you could barely see due to the fact that the windows were pretty murky.

On the plus side, the food was very good and the staff were exceptionally pleasant and helpful.

“Well Situated Hotel”

Hellaby Hall Hotel

25 Nov 2006

The hotel is conveniently situated close to the motorway and major roads but very quiet and with ample and safe parking facilities.
The "historical building" is small but nice and well kept, it took me ages to reach my room in the "new wing", room was in no way exceptionnal, average in size, well equipped but pretty standard, really nothing exciting.
The lounge bar is warm and cosy, plesant to stay for a drink and reading the paper. The main restaurant looked to me pretentious
and with an unpleasant smell, I chose to go to their Italian restaurant Rizzio's, good food, good service and pleasant surrounding, the only drawbackl being that you have to leave the hotel and make a short walk, no problem when weather is nice but not very pleasant when it rains which is often the case ...
Breakfast was rather disappointing
Overall not a bad hotel if you get a good rate ....

“Nice”

We stayed here as a recently as a little treat, I believe that the whole package was just £100 which included one nights accommodation, a 3 course meal for the two of us, together with access to all the leisure facilities.

Our room was huge and so was the bed (2 beds put together) it was also very clean and had everything we needed for a comfortable nights stay. The room did appear miles away from reception, however, it was very close to the swimming pool.

The pool area is very reasonable and luckily for us there were only a few of us around as most people staying at the hotel were with a wedding party.

In the evening we had a meal in the restaurant – there did seem to be a slightly strange smell …..(can’t describe it – like old people?! ) but anyway the food was lovely and again just a few of us in the restaurant.

Not sure if we would go out of our way to stay in this hotel again – perhaps if we saw another good deal?
