snow was on the ground throughout our recent stay but there was nothing chilly about the deeside. very warm welcome , log fires, excellent food. and peace and quiet
this small hotel is a victorian house set back off the main road with ample parking yet it is within a few minutes walk of ballater village and the lovely river dee. two circular walks begin just outside the garden gate while another begins across the road ~ very convenient.
we stayed recently for 3 nights on a dinner,b&b basis. plenty of choice at breakfast all served at the table making a pleasant change from the usual buffet.. dinner again had many options. in fact we could select 3 courses from the a la carte menu and the food was always delicious, well presented and served with a smile
our room with a king-size bed was clean and spacious with tea/coffee and shortbreads each day. the hotel also has family rooms, a comfortable lounge with bar area, a small winter dining room and a large conservatory restaurant for busier times.
we thought the deeside hotel was fantastic value for money and would highly recommend it

We stayed here in August for 3 days. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the centre of Ballater. We went walking, canoeing and biking along well-marked trails. We highly recommend taking the dinner, bed and breakfast option. Whilst there are other restaurants in Ballater (we ate at 2 others), the food at the Deeside was first class and great value as part of the package. I would go as far as to say that one of the meals I had here rated as one of my top 5 meals ever! Note the dinner, bed and breakfast rate is only available when booked in advance.

Lovely comfortable bedrooms and welcoming host Fenella. We are definitely returning!

“Great Small Hotel”

This is our second visit and we were not disappointed!

Great small hotel, friendly helpful owner and great food. We stayed for four nights and took advantage of the DB&B package which was good value.

Ballater is a great location for walking. We picked up a hire car from Aberdeen airport to get around and were able to enjoy some good walking in the near by Glens.

No problem recommending the Deeside Hotel.

We stayed here over the weekend of my father's 70th birthday. They were happy to accommodate us at very short notice, and were very warm and welcoming of our stay.

The rooms are very clean, and comfortable, with a nicely decorated restaurant, and homely bar and lounge areas. The restaurant has an excellent and varied menu, with a nicely rounded wine list with something for everyone. The food is fresh, and delicious - all local produce (my father's venison was superbly cooked!).

To top it all, a gracious and attentive host and hostess. I highly recomend this charming hotel and would be delighted to stay here again.
