Stayed for a night while on business in the area. Scarborough has several once grand, now very much faded hotels of which this is one, although some effort and quite a lot of cash has clearly been spent in trying to restore some glory at the Crown Spa. Good news is that the restaurant has been refurbished in a modern, chic, style and both dinner and breakfast were very acceptable. There is also an impressive health club although rather curiously hotel residents are expected not to use the club during peak times (ie late afternoon/early evening) to make way for paying club members living locally. The bad news is that the rooms sadly let this establishment down badly and are typical of the type of accomodation still often found in UK seaside resorts. Decor and furnishings are bland and dated (including crappy 10 year old TV in the room I stayed in). Bathroom did not have a proper shower, only a tap attachment which did not work properly - to get the water to come out at a sensible force and temperature you had to have both taps running and stand in 3 inches of water as well! If and when the rooms are upgraded to the standard of the restaurant, bar and health club, this will once again be a fine hotel to stay at.
