“Surprisingly Good - Highly Recommended”

Crown Spa Hotel

I had the lovely situation of being able to stay at the Crown Spa Hotel as our office team had won a internal sales prize and so we got to go away for the Day to Scarborough and spend the night in the Crown Spa Hotel.

I didn't have time to utilise the Spa area, but certainly the massage and manicures etc looked extremely affordable and I would like to go back and try them in the future.

The bedroom was a little influenced by the 70s in terms of decor, but in my opinion this added to the charm as I don't know what I'd make of a modern chic hotel in Scarborough - you need a bit of the "days gone by" feel at a hotel to feel that you are truly in Scarborough. The bathroom was fab, massive shower head and waterfall type bath. The additional benefits were the cute Paddington Bear to hand outside your door if you don't want to be disturbed and free of charge breakfast in bed which was very tasty. Another lovely touch was that we arrived back from a night out to the curtains shut and mint chocolates on our pillow. Also you can get 24 hour room service sandwiches which I sampled and was impressed with!

In terms of location, it's a bit of a walk from the seafront and up and down a few steep slopes, but far enough away for lovely views of the sea and away from noisy nightlife.

We went in a group of 14 and were very well looked after, but I would love to go away for a more intimate break with my partner.

“Hotel with an identity crisis!”

Crown Spa Hotel

12 Apr 2008

Stayed for a night while on business in the area. Scarborough has several once grand, now very much faded hotels of which this is one, although some effort and quite a lot of cash has clearly been spent in trying to restore some glory at the Crown Spa. Good news is that the restaurant has been refurbished in a modern, chic, style and both dinner and breakfast were very acceptable. There is also an impressive health club although rather curiously hotel residents are expected not to use the club during peak times (ie late afternoon/early evening) to make way for paying club members living locally. The bad news is that the rooms sadly let this establishment down badly and are typical of the type of accomodation still often found in UK seaside resorts. Decor and furnishings are bland and dated (including crappy 10 year old TV in the room I stayed in). Bathroom did not have a proper shower, only a tap attachment which did not work properly - to get the water to come out at a sensible force and temperature you had to have both taps running and stand in 3 inches of water as well! If and when the rooms are upgraded to the standard of the restaurant, bar and health club, this will once again be a fine hotel to stay at.

May i first of all thank you for the positive comments regarding the areas of the Crown that have already been refurbished.

I am 100% in agreement that like most seaside resorts certain bedrooms at the Crown are set in somewhat of a time warp. This however hasn’t avoided our attention and since November 2007 we began a program of renovation that is expected to end by mid July.

During the renovations the following has been completed.

Bathrooms refurbished with double ended baths, 12 inch shower heads and mood lighting.

Bedrooms refurbished with high quality bespoke furniture, luxury bedding, mood lighting (in feature rooms) and min 32" lcd TV with built in freeview.

These features i know will bring the Crowns bedrooms up to the standard of the public areas and shake of the traditional seaside hotel image.

We do encourage all of guests to use the Spa & Health Club and never restrict access any time.

“GOING TO SCARBOROUGH? STAY AT THE CROWN SPA - BEST HOTEL IN TOWN!”

We always do something every year for our wedding anniversary - 2006 it was New York, 2007 San Francisco, 2008 because we are so busy (we have a small model making business) we decided to have a few days away in scarborough! - a place that we both love. We had been to many hotels in the town and the surrounding area over the years - trying out new places to stay is a thing we like to do and we do know quite a bit about hotels and what to expect. The Crown Spa "does exactly what it says on the tin" - Arriving was easy - quickly checked in, parking ticket prepared for free parking outside the hotel in seconds and within 10 minutes we were enjoying the most stunning views over the south bay from our balcony. The room was superb - beautifully furnished with a huge bed and the biggest flat screen TV you could imagine, very tastefully decorated throughout it was very comfortable and was a delight to be in. This is the first hotel in the UK that we have stayed in that the staff could have been trained in the states - they were only concerned with our needs were all very attentive and very professional. The facilities in the hotel were excellent, super lounge and bar areas, everything was very well appointed, an amazing spa area with a great swimming pool which had to be seen to be believed as it was decorated in the original Victorian style. Food was wonderful plenty of choice with a great wine list .....all in all a great experience AND SO GOOD THAT WE HAVE BOOKED THREE ROOMS FOR A FAMILY GET TOGETHER IN SEPTEMBER LATER THIS YEAR. Highly recommended, the management are to be commended for their obvious professionalism.

i recently stayed at the crown spa hotel on buisness it is in a nice location with excellent sea views even when the weather is miserable as was when i was there. check in was prompt and friendly, rooms clean and tidy although dated, restraunt decor nice, i only ate breakfast there which was very good and plentful. the only downside for me was the lack of designated parking, there is parking on the road outside if your lucky which is free between 17.00-09.00 between this you can get a pass from the hotel.
