We have just returned from a two day break at this hotel and I can honestly say that it was one of the most enjoyable places that we have stayed in. The whole place evoked a dignified era of calm and gentility so it’s perhaps it’s not one for those looking for lively seaside excitement. Although there is an impressive range of activities on offer, from one of the most challenging golf courses in the country together with a small, but adequate, indoor pool, gym, sauna and croquet lawn, which we would have loved to have played on but sadly there was not enough time.
The location is unquestionably outstanding, although it does sometimes suffer from extreme localised weather conditions, most notably mists or 'sea frets' but I wouldn’t let this put you off as the staff, service, facilities and whole experience will more than make up for any deficiencies in the weather. I’ve
seen some unflattering reviews of this place so was a little hesitant about making a booking. I now suspect that the criticismsmust lie with the fact that the hotel was undergoing a large refurbishment programme and so some reviewers must have encountered one of the un-refurbished rooms. I suggest that when you book you specifically ask for a re-furbished room.

“Beautiful place, massive grounds, tired room”

We booked our one night stay via Laterooms after finding the hotel online. Its in such a perfect location and has spectacular views of Robin Hoods Bay from all around the gardens. It even has a golf course, this place is massive and great for wandering around after eating too much dinner. We've stayed in better rooms, thats for sure. This was extremely old fashioned, the wardrobe clanged a lot - just from us walking around the room and it was covered in dust. The bed was not very comfy and the headboard had two head shaped marks on it. Not nice. New bed covers would be a good idea, these were chintzy and didn't properly fit the duvet. In our opinion the 3 star AA rating is more to do with the grounds than the accommodation. The breakfast buffet was reasonable, however, and the coach load of old folks that descended the same day as us couldn't get enough of the prunes. An amusing stay.

Booked 2 days before travel @ £60 per room B&B - delighted to get a large bay window sea view room. Room shabby chic with tv, tea coffee etc. Central heating was timed by management, found room to be cold at times.

Hotel allows dogs in certain bedrooms, check if you have an allergy as our room had dog hairs all over the carpet.

Breakfast was buffet and plentyful, staff attentive and helpful. Evening meals were set menu and quite pricey.

Golf, gym and swimming available and grounds with seats and bay views. Hotel is remote so own transport essential. A walkers paradise, 5 miles along marked footpath to Robin Hoods bay.

“Relaxed atmosphere and beautiful settings”

My partner and I have stayed at this hotel before and enjoyed it so much we went back!

We booked on the "SuperBreak" website and it was cheaper than booking directly with the hotel.

When we checked in the receptionist was very pleasant but did not give us any information on breakfast times or dinner times or how to book a table, however, when we asked at the bar later on, the barman was more than helpful and gave all the information we needed.

In some places the carpets and furniture are "old" and "tired" but as some of the other reviews state, this is been worked on and some of it is being refurbished, the bits that have been done look great and when the rest of it is done it will look fabulous.

The room was OK, the carpet was slightly dirty and it was two single beds pushed together rather than a double, also the sheets were single ones, but apart from that it was OK. The view was fabulous.

The settings are beautiful and on a clear day (unfortunatley our trip was not on a clear day!) you can see right over to Robin Hoods Bay (you can also walk there on a good day - hard work but worth it). The food was excellent and the service was also very good. There are a couple of comments I would make but they are only minor. Firstly - The windows in the dining area were not clean! When you look out over the bay you struggle to see through the dirty windows! I guess it is difficult to keep on top of this due to the location. Also, at breakfast, the buffet hot trolley is in a strange place. It is right in the passageway where people are coming in and out so it is all a bit "cluttered".

The bar and lounge area is lovely with a seperate smoking area. The open fire is very welcoming after a day walking. The atmosphere was very relaxed and it felt like a home from home. No body bothered you at all. We sat and read in front of the fire and even managed a nap!

I would definatley go back and plan to do so later in the year. My only tip is to keep your eyes open on different websites for offers.

All in all a relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable trip. Highly recommended.

“Breezy break!”

My husband and I have just returned from a 3 day break with a coach company from Gainsborough. We were welcomed with tea and biscuits and then taken to our newly refurbished troom with a 'bay view' - just what I was hoping for.

Dinner was beautifully presented with enough choice followed by coffee in the lounge where a log fire burned. There was entertainment later - a musician one evening and a singer the next. There was also an indoor swimming pool for the more energetic.

The location is brilliant - excellent for walking (in warmer weather) but very good for visiting Whitcy and Scarborough and the Fylingdales Moors.

We are looking forward to going again.
