“Disappointing”

East Ayton Lodge

26 Jan 2007

We went between xmas and new year to visit family in Scarboro, and we got a cheap deal through LateRooms. The staff were initially friendly and helpful, but the (so called 'superior')room was a major disappointment. On entering my wife discovered a 'floater' had been left in the toilet, there was no proper shower (handheld only) and shortly after settling down for the evening we heard the irritating thump of music and chatter from the bar immediately below our room. This was extrememly annoying as the hotel had been made aware in advance that we had a very young infant with us (they had kindly supplied a travel cot in the room), so surely must have known that given the poor soundproofing of the rooms (see many other reviews) this would cause a disturbance to us and especially our son. When I asked the barman to turn the music down he obliged but the bar noise was still audible in the room. This was pretty thoughtless room allocation on behalf of the staff.
Food was reasonable although the staff's manner was now perfunctory rather than friendly. There are other, better places to stay in the area. For a 3* hotel (especially if you pay full price) this is a really disappointing experience.

“Disapointing”

East Ayton Lodge

21 Jan 2007

A nice hotel let down by its rooms and staff. We spent two nights here for a Christmas break and were quite impressed until we came to check in. No one on reception and after speaking to the chef and him taking us to our rooms - to find they were not a double and single as booked but two twin rooms one of which was obviously a smoking room - promptly disapeared. On returning to reception there seemed to be great confusion and when I asked what was up was told they were sorting our room. This eventually turned out to be two single beds pushed together with ill fitting linen. To finalise our arrival one room was so hot you could hardly breath, the other freezing. Needless to say this had rather put the dampers on the stay ,our only hope was for a good meal. We had no complaints the first night - a nice young man on bar a waiting duty also a good meal - the second night must have been a different chef, as steak was over cooked and the provision of bread with the soup was not possible as they were too busy!!!

I would agree with other reviews that the rooms are shabby and in need of attention. The only good point I can make is that we took our dog with us and she was certainly made welcome.

“A great venue for New Year”

East Ayton Lodge

9 Jan 2007

We stayed for New Years and had a great time. Food was pretty good and they catered for many. Room really nice and atmosphere great. My only complaint was that the bar service was slow at times. I would recommend this Hotel.

We were looking for a reasonably priced hotel that was basically clean and decent. We opted for this one as most in the town were full and the website looked great; especially as we got it at a reduced rate through laterooms.
We were allocated an outside room that from the outside looked like a cheap motel. Inside looked OK but it was not a non-smoking room which I asked for. Also it was freezing outside and not much better inside. We asked for another room which, in hindsight, probably turned out to be a mistake as the second room proved worse as the night wore on. Stifling hot during the night, wall paper peeling, horrid bathroom carpet, black and pink mould around the bath and shower, thin walls and squeaky floorboards...need I go on, I think you probably get the picture. It felt like a cheap and vey budget hotel but the prices were not!
I won't ever return!

Staff were polite and the sevice was good.
Food was poor in general, vegetables were warm but not cooked long enough, chips were warm and some were uncooked.
Cheese and biscuits for dessert were seved with a human hair sticking to the cheese.
One of the two cups supplied for tea was dirty.
The room was generally shabby and the curtains were dirty.
