For once a hotel that actually lives up to the photos on it's website! , the views were sublime , the rooms very clean and comfortable and finished to a good standard . The breakfast was excellent and the location perfect . The hotel was full when we stayed and we were delighted to be in such lovely company- we stayed for seven memorable nights . Nothing was too much trouble for the wonderfull couple and their lovely children who own the Derwent House. Many of the guests were regular visitors and after chatting in the bar with some of them in the evening it was obvious that the hotel has built up a reputation for itself - so to avoid disappointment next year we have booked a sea view room for a week in May-superb value for money and a jewell in scarboroughs crown !

We have been coming to scarborough for many years and picked this hotel after we drove past it last year - it stands out from the others ! We both loved our stay here,. the owners were so nice and the hotel is a credit to them. Breakfast and evening company were great and the whole atmosphere and gorgeous views simply added to a perfect break.

“Very nice little B&B”

Derwent House Hotel

We have just returned from a short break at this cosy little B&B, we were greated with a cheery welcome from the owner, who was rather concerned, on seeing that I was rather larger than a size 12, having read someones comments on here regarding the size of the ensuite bathroom to the room she had reserved for us. She need not have worried, we managed fine, and indeed the ensuite was larger than those found in an average static caravan or a cabin on a cruiseship!

The room was very clean and comfortable, if I had one gripe it would be regarding the overhead bedside lights, whos shades I regularly knocked off in the night as I hit my head on them whilst sleeping fairly propped up due to a breathing problem I have.

The breakfast was well cooked and presented, and the 8.30am service time didnt bother us as we are natural early risers anyway.

One point I would like to make though, if you have any mobility problems, then please be aware that this B&B is situated in a fine lovingly restored 'turn of the century ' former gentilmans residence, and as such the bedrooms are situated over 5 floors, with no lift or ground floor rooms available for disabled guests or those that find more than a just a few stairs difficult to negotiate. This in no way is any fault of the owners, who are really kind and helpfull people, its just merely how this type of property was designed and built, which does not lend itself to the instalation of a modern lift.
Being disabled myself, I did manage to get up to the first floor , all be it very slowly, and had a wonderful view of the north bay from my bedroom window , but I know that without a prior request for a first floor room, I would have not made it up to any of the upper floors in this charming B&B.

I am definately hoping to return again for another short break soon, and would recommend this accomodation to most people for its clean, comfortable and friendly service.

We stayed at the Derwent House Hotel for a couple of nights after reading the good reviews. We had a sea view room, which did have a great view of the North Bay. It was very clean, and sufficient for a short stay but we found the bed and pillows rather uncomfortable and the bathroom, whilst it was very clean, was the size of a cupboard, anyone larger than a size 12 really would struggle to use the toilet or shower!
The breakfast was very good, consisting of a proper full English, nicely cooked, only gripe would be that it was served at 8.30am prompt. It would be nice to have a bit of leeway with breakfast times, ie most places would give at least a half hour slot in which to make it!

“What a great weekend”

Derwent House Hotel

We stayed at the Derwent House during mid October. We had a sea view room with a super large bathroom. The room was spot less and the view was incredible.

The owner greeted us on arrival made us so welcome, carried our cases to the room. As we had not been to Scarborough before she explained were everything was, gave us a street map to help us find our way around.

Breakfast was large and yummy.

We had drinks in the bar and chatted the night away with the owners.

The whole place is just wonderfull and friendly and so clean, can't wait to visit again next year.
