“Warm welcome in Scarborough”

Raincliffe Hotel

This is a newly refurbished, but happily still feature-filled Victorian hotel, decorated to suit its era, but with all mod cons in the bright bedrooms. Although it does not have a lift, and there are some steep steps up to the path to the door, it does have a ground floor bedroom for the less able. They do not take small children, but older ones are welcomed.
The hotel is set in a small pretty garden with outside seating, close to the South beach and the Valley Road gardens, and a short walk to the town centre. On street parking is by zone disc supplied on arrival, and we always found a nearby place, even at weekends.
We received a warm welcome from Katherine, and were shown to our well presented and appointed room, with its very comfortable king-size bed and sparkling clean shower-room. Hot water was constant, and all of the rooms are central heated, and have easily opened windows. On the ground level is a large and comfortable sitting room with a bar, where guests are free to watch television, play provided tale games, chat or just sit and read.
The breakfast was all that could be wished for and more than ample. Fruit juice, cereals, grapefruit, prunes and a fresh fruits self-help buffet were followed by a freshly cooked and very varied gargantuan breakfast. Mal, our cheerful host, was generously determined that no part of the large plate could be seen beneath whatever you ordered. Rounded off with tea, coffee, toasts and the trimmings, plus offers of more, everyone was well 'set up' for the day. They were able to recommend some excellent dining establishments.
We would heartily recommend this hotel and thoroughly enjoyed our extra long weekend stay, and no, the sun did not shine everyday to brighten our judgement!

Scarborough is one of Britain's most famous holiday resorts with much to commend it, however you do have to choose where to stay with some care. Luckily, I went to the Raincliffe first time. A wonderfull welcome from Katie, and with Mal's sense of humour to accompany the breakfast!

This is my third visit to this hotel since Katie and Mal have owned it. The second visit there were changes to the rooms, - the beds having been replaced with new ones, rooms redecorated, new carpets. The result of this effort is that the hotel had lovely peacefull ambience where the other guests didnt seem intrusive.

My third visit has prompted these comments, as over the last winter, the builders have been in, adding new rooms, and updating the kitchen and dining rooms, and adding a new front patio. Yet its still the Raincliffe, same wonderfull welcome with the same quiet ambience as befits this lovely Victorian building. This time, my room was one of the new ones, and well above the norm it was. I'm a light sleeper, and I was fine in there.

Of course, there is the breakfast in the morning....... You will find that this excellent meal is not stinted by any means, Mal makes very sure of that. The only problem that I had was in actually finishing one of his 'Full English' breakfasts whilst Mal was out of the kitchen and in the dining room entertaining the guests! Its hard to eat when you are laughing.

I have stayed in many hotels and guest houses in many countries over the years, both alone and with my spouse, and I do know what I like. For me the Raincliffe Hotel certainly ticks all the boxes and when staying in Scarborough, I see no reason to go anywhere else.

We have just had an excellent weekend staying in the Raincliffe Hotel. Our room was fresh, clean and superbly comfortable. The hosts are a lovely generous couple who really know how to look after their guests. The Raincliffe is a beautiful guest house and I could have sat in the lounge all day. Scarborough itself was a real surprise and we hadn't been there before. It is totally unspoilt, very clean and retains its seafaring atmosphere that has been lost in many other costal resorts. I would recommend a visit to the Raincliffe and Scarborough with no hesitation at all.

We arrived at the Hotel on Saturday of a bank holiday weekend without a booking and luckily they had a room available for us.
The Room was freshly decorated in a country style and was very clean.
In the room there was Tea, coffee and hot chocolate with biscuits that were complimentary.
The breakfast was very nice that my husband had and i had a vegetarian breakfast which was also nice.
The hotel is in an excellant position just a 10 mins walk to main centre, a pretty flat walk too - no hills and a 5-10 mins walk to the train station.
A great nights stay

We had a wonderful stay at the Raincliffe - what a lovely B&B! The whole hotel is clean, fresh, sunny and airy. The bedrooms are lovely with really comfy beds and lots of little extra touches. The breakfast were tasty and beautifully presented. The owners are really friendly and make you feel very welcome. I have stayed at a couple of B&B's in Scarborough and this one is by far the very best. Highly recommended to anybody visiting Scarborough.
