stop for one night as going to concert, lovely looking brochure, downstairs was lovely, but the rooms were tired looking, dated and needed bringing into the 21st century, typical fawlty towers look. The staff were lovely, and we were looking forward to the hearty breakfast that it said on the brochure., this was disappointing, luke warm and not what i would call hearty at all. The location was central and a good spot to visit scarboroughs local tourist attractions, if it has any.

We have just got back home after a lovely weekend break, decided to stay at the Riviera Hotel after seeing their website. Very nice hotel and perfectly placed in the town centre. We both felt that the hotel is a very well run family hotel, always friendly and helpful and recommended some lovely restaurants close to the hotel. Excellent local selection of breakfast to choose from including a hearty full breakfast or/and continental alternatives. There was ample parking outside the hotel and some good views out of the bedroom. Looks like the hotel has just undergone a makeover, the decoration is lovely and modern, especially on the ground floor where it really feels like a home from home.

Made us feel very welcome, well worth a return visit!

I have stayed at the Riviera Hotel once for a half term holiday with my family. I found it tierd and depressing. The public areas are quite well maintained but the rooms are a bit worn and shabby. Overall, it wasn't too dreadful. Just a bit dull and run down. Also the staff were very unhelpful, i had to ring the reception 4 times before someone actually answered the phone. The breakfast was ok but i felt they had put a very young person on to serve in the dining room (she looked and acted like she could have been 12 or 13!!

“Riviera Hotel - 'Flat roof' = Mouldy Ceiling!”

Reviewer: Rotary Conference delegate.

Stayed at the 3-star rated Riviera Hotel in Scarborough as it is very conveniently situated for the Spa Complex which is where the Rotary conference was being held.
Whilst the hotel is functional as a bed & breakfast hotel, there is NO information in the room whatsoever about times of the breakfast or how to ring reception. Plus in a 3-star hotel I would have expected a remote control with the TV, the only time I watch TV in bed is when I stay at a hotel & I'm not used to having to get out of bed to switch off the TV.
My main concern was the large amount of mould on the ceiling of room 6 on the 1st floor, this was clearly visible on the ceiling near the window. When this was pointed out to the manager on reception, his reply was, "well it does have a flat roof" - as if mould on the ceiling was perfectly acceptable! Plus he then attempted to charge the full rate, not withstanding that a deposit had already been paid.
In summary, this hotel clearly does not put the comfort of its guests as a priority & clearly accepts that a mouldy ceiling is not only acceptable to guests but charges full price as well.
Would I stay there again - definitely NOT.
