“One to remember...”

George Hotel

For the right reasons! The restaurant and the bar/ lounge area were the main highlight of many for us during our stay. The restaurant was well designed and full of warmth and good service. The bar was a nice place to sit back and unwind from either the long drive or just a long day. The bed was also comfortable with the hot showers giving welcome relief. A pleasant stay.

“Painful”

George Hotel

7 Jul 2007

Staying in this hotel was an extremely painful experience. The heating was switched on in the hotel all night and hotel porter indicated that "it just happens". Food was terrible. Rooms are tiny. This is an old historical hotel, but considering location is in need of serious rennovation. I would attach a serious health warning to staying here again and would instead stay in a cheap hostel.

“Yuk, worst hotel I've ever been in and severely overpriced”

George Hotel

Yuk, yuk, yuk....only real way to describe this place. This was the worst hotel I think I have ever stayed in. We booked inf or 3 nights at a price of £120 per night, (and bearing in mind this is small town Huddersfield and next to a railway line), we were expecting a good standard of accommodation but were given a room which was in a very poor state of repair and dirty. If you look at the photos, it's incredible how the George Hotel can justify their prices. The rooms are in need of serious renovation. Coffee had been spilt over the skirting boards and not cleaned up, a window was broken, the bath was mouldy, tiles were missing around the bath, the tap was cracked, carpet stained under the radiators which had obviously been leaking, the lightshade was falling to pieces, the table and dressing table had water damage and rings from hot cups and the chair was dirty and must have dated back 20 years. When we took it up with the general manager he came out with some bull that when one books a hotel, the room is a minor part of the booking - the main thing is paying for the location, staff and facilities! Their brochure says the hotel provides the comforts of home...sorry, but we certainly don't live like that! We asked for another room but the ones we were shown were worse...significantly smaller with torn upholstery. After complaining he reduced the room to £90...big deal! I wouldnt have paid £30 for this room had I realised beforehand what I was booking and had we arrived in time to move hotels. We had no choice but to stay one night but promptly checked out the following morning and booked into the Hilton 3 miles away. I would not recommend anyone to stay in this hotel.

“Bad value for money”

I would not stay here again. It is the most expensive hotel in central Huddersfield, yet offers no breakfast included in the rate, few in-room facilities, and delivers poor value for money. The outside is very nice and historical, and it's close to the station, which is about the extent of its charm. Any other hotel would be better value and probably more welcoming. I've stayed at the Comfort Lodge previously, and highly recommend it by comparison.

“Good old fashioned hotel”

George Hotel

Good stay, staff friendly, food good. I like older hotels rather than the new modern faceless blocks, so it suited me fine
