My husband and myself went to the Pennine Manor Hotel for a Valentines day weekend package. It was a Valentine dinner, a bottle of bubbly and an overnight stay on the Saturday night and breakfast on the sunday morning. We werent offered a smoking room so if you are a smoker beware - they have smoking rooms. The hotel was also having a wedding on the saturday we arrived. We booked in great and asked for an 8.30am call as they only do breakfast till 9.30 so dont expect a long lie in on sunday morning. The Valentine meal was wonderful, the food superb and the restaurant staff very professional. However, we got a wake up call at 8am which wasnt appreciated since we didnt get to sleep till very late due to the disco from the wedding and a mattress with roll together which meant you were hanging onto the edge like the eiger! As the wake up call was automated we couldnt even complain there and then. We did so on checking out but were patronised by the receptionist who said....but it was only half an hour early! We also asked where the bottle of bubbly was only to be told that when they do this at new year its usually in the room! This was extremely unhelpful linformation! Eventually they gave us a bottle to leave with saying we could drink it on the Tuesday which was valentines day proper! We already had plans which included a bottle of bubbly anyway.

We booked a weekend of romance in a country hotel with bubbly in our room and a great meal and what we got was a hotel with great views, a great meal, a lumpy bed and disorganised staff.

So make sure that you double check every detail of your booking both before and while you are there.

“Comfortable and homely with friendly staff and great views”

Perched high up overlooking Huddersfield, this hotel is worth a visit if you need a peaceful room just 5 minutes off the M62. Even with the windows open we couldn't hear the motorway. Our room was of an adequate size and was clean, nothing fancy. In the room were a trouser press/ironing board and iron, hairdryer, tea & coffee and tv. The bathroom was huge with a good suite and shower and was stocked with good quality shower gels and moisturisers, unlike the quality of the loo paper and tissues which was cheap. Very comfy beds and pillows and good cotton linen. Don't stay in room 19 which is located immediately above the noisy boiler room. On a more positive note, the restaurant food is fabulous, beautifully presented and there's a good menu choice. From the number of cars in the car park it also seems to be popular with locals. The restaurant itself feels like a favourite aunt's dining room, very welcoming, as was the public bar with its cosy seating and wood burner. There's also a bar menu until 9pm if you don't have the time for dining. The staff were at all times especially welcoming and friendly. We would return. Oh, and there's even a helicopter landing pad if using the M62 is beneath you.
