The hotel, exterior and lobby of this city centre hotel is fine enough and the satff were friendly and helpful. We were looky to get a car parking space (the last one and we checked in at 3pm!)as there are about 11 spaces for the whole hotel.
The room was a time warp from the 70s with awful garish floral wallpaper (some of it hanging off). The curtains were dirty with stains on them. The bedding and bathroom was clean enough and the furniture was functional. We suspect that they had put us in a smoking room although we had asked for non-smoking. It was not a true double bed either - it was two singles pushed together.
The biggest upset though was on returning to our room at 10pm. We were directly above the hotel's bar/disco and had to endure thumping music until 12.30am. Throughout there was screaming/shouting (and one fight!) right beneath our bedroom window. We complained to the reception at 12.10am and was told that we should have been warned (we had not been). From 12.30 am, shouting outside continued until after 3am. By this time, I had borrowed some ear plugs and was starting to get some interrupted sleep.
The breakfast was good and the breakfast staff very friendly.
We had got a group booking rate of £50 (it was a Saturday night), but they reduced this to £40 because of our problems. Just make sure you don't get rooms 173 - 175, unless you are an insomniac and don't care!
