I agree with the other reviewers: this is a marvellous place to stay. Right on the waterfront, with a beautiful front garden, our room had a view of the water, as does the dining room and residents' lounge. The parade (walkway) along the sea is right in front--you can have a good, peaceful walk along the water for miles. Or the hosts will set up the telescope for you in the lounge, and point out submarines and dolphins.
Donald and Fraser are superb, experienced hosts. We haven't met better. The breakfast was terrific--excellent choice of cereals, juices, breads, fruit; bacon and eggs perfectly prepared. Very good coffees and teas, and all the accessories. Everything fresh and well presented.
We stayed for three nights and had the dinner each evening--several wonderful and imaginative courses, and a bargain price! They dress for the occasion, but you don't have to. Very discreet and well appointed atmosphere, but very relaxing and casual too. Apperatives and conversation in the lounge before dinner if you like.
We were so happy there we took packed lunches as well, to wander about the town and the parks and forests. A terrific botan ical garden/forest nearby. The only caveat is we Indulged in french fries by the sea shore at the tea shops on a too regular basis, but then walked forever in every direction.
The room was clean and very comfortable. Laundry and drying facilities available. Dunoon was very much worth the trip. Extremely relaxing and restorative, a perfect retreat.
