My wife and I are on a fast tour of Scotland and wanted somewhere central from where we could explore the countryside. We booked at the Royal largely because of the good reviews here. We were slightly concerned by the one bad review, but it was reassuring to see all the others were positive. We were swayed by the fact that they have Max the Bernese Mountain dog, and we have one also that we miss whilst away and we both wanted out Bernese fix. Max was a treat, as was his new friend Midge who is five months old, but sadly they are both not at the Hotel all the time now, because Midge tends to wander and does not have road sense..
The owners, Neil and Sandy, are a delight and could not have been more friendly and helpful. I was amazed that he seems to be everywhere all the time and yet still always has time for you. The slight down side is being on the 3rd floor and no lift, but I nearly had to fight Neil to stop him carrying both our suitcases up. It worked out well as we needed the exercise as the food was exceptional. The restaurant was on the upper side of what we wanted to pay on a regular basis, (only because of the poor exchange rate between Pounds and the Australian Dollar) but well worth the cost. The pub lounge meal was very reasonably priced and delicious. I needed to take the stairs after those meals. The room is very floral, but very tasteful and clean. I cannot see how anyone could complain about it The spare bed is handy for putting cases on, and the room is a good size for the UK. The area is typical Scotland, which is exactly what we wanted. I have travelled internationally 18 times for long periods and have stayed at countless hotels all over the world. I loved the place and would recommend it anyone.
