“Not Impressed - Didn't hang around!!!!”

This is a very old hotel in need of a face lift! When we checked into our room, we couldn't believe how bad the decor was and the modern flat pack furniture just made the place look worse. The bed was about as old as the hotel and sagged in the middle. The en suite was dark and dingy and the toilet roll holder was actually a cheap gold gift bag!!!! On sight, the room and bathroom looked clean enough. Our room was right above reception and you could hear everything which was going on below. It also faced onto the main road and you could hear every floor board creaking in the hotel.
The staff seemed disorganised. There was nobody to serve us in the bar and when the bar man finally arrived he had a mouth full of food and was unable to ask us what we wanted! The pint of lager which we ordered was very stale tasting.
Having experienced nothing nice since we checked in, we decided not to stay and checked out an hour after checking in choosing to lose our £50.00 rather than spend anymore money in the hotel.

We were given a gift of dinner, bed and breakfast and had a wonderful time. On arrival, Neil knew exactly who we were and which room we were staying in. We were given information about times for dinner and where we could eat. The room was excellent and well stocked. When we went down for dinner Neil attended to us immediately and we were seated by the fire in the lounge. We were given time to look at the menu and had a drink while we did so. We didn't have long to wait until our starter was ready and our drinks were carried through to the restaurant for us. We were given a choice of table for dinner. The decor was lovely and relaxing. The food was excellent. We were given time after our main course before we ordered dessert. At no time did we feel rushed out even though we were the last ones in the restaurant. Coffee was served to us back in the lounge. Although Neil had other guests to attend to, we felt as if he was there just for us. We decided to have breakfast in our room which arrived exactly at the time we requested, piping hot and plentiful. We would recommend this hotel anytime and would gladly go back.

We were travelling through a blizzard from Ullapool to Edinburgh and wanted somewhere to stop for the night. We walked in to the Atholl Arms and were given a friendly welcome and offered a good room rate of £54 for a double room, including breakfast. The room was clean, had a good functional bathroom and a comfortable bed. We had an evening meal beside the log fire in the bar. Food was better than average bar food and staff were friendly. Breakfast was good and again service prompt and friendly.

Dunkeld is a much nicer town than the kilt'n'kitsch of Pitlochry and I would definitely recommend it as base to explore the area and the Atholl Arms is a fine place for a stopover or a short stay.

We had a great time staff very helpfull, food good, yes rooms are a bit tired but they are adequate, overall will definatley go back

Clean, welcoming and comfortable, great value for money, good food in the restaurant, and a hearty breakfast. A real fire in the lounge would be a bonus!
