There is a general lack of places to stay in Worthing, but we booked this on the back of good reviews on this website. This was a dreadful mistake.
We arrived on Saturday evening, about 7pm, to find that there was a wedding reception, with disco and live band, going on. Imagine our horror when we then found out that the room we had been given was on the first floor, directly about the sound system. We asked to change room, but were told that no other rooms were available - and were assured that the noise would quieten down by about 10pm.
At 10pm, we came back from dinner and sat on the bed in our room, watching the whole room physically vibrate with the sound. I have no problem with people having a good time at a wedding reception - but what I do have a problem with is the hotel not informing you at the time of booking that the only room they had was the one directly above the music. Would I have booked if I had known that? Of course not. Noone would.
Eventually, I went back down to reception and informed them that they could either find me another room, or I would only pay them £30 for the room. Miraculously, at that point, another room was found. This was a large suite - and we passed a comfortable night.
Breakfast was OK - although the waitresses stood round and had an extended chat with each other before choosing to serve anyone. The food wasn't bad - although the scrambled eggs were cold.
The hotel has great potential. The location is fabulous - right on the beach, and there are some good restaurants and bars round the corner. The rooms are a reasonable size and have good high ceilings. However, the decor looks like my grandmother's house - done in the 1960s and hardly touched since. It was reasonably clean - but it took a very long time to get any hot water out of the shower.
We go to Worthing regularly - but I won't be staying here again.
