We also stayed at The Beach on 2 December when there was a very noisy wedding reception going on. We had not been told about it either, I suspect this was because we were only staying for 1 night. This has happened to us before in other hotels with varying degrees of noise going on throughout the night - something you need to be aware of if you stay over on a Saturday night.

We were down to see Paul Weller play at Brighton and were unable to find a hotel for just the one night so booked in at the Beach and took a taxi across. This meant we arrived back at 11.30 p.m. to find the hotel locked and no-one to let us in. The noise was very loud indeed. The porter did eventually arrive and opened the decrepit old door - needs replacing - but said he had been on the phone. Not good enough really. The noise went on until 1 a.m., we were right above the disco but for us it wasn't worth the hassle of moving.

As for The Beach, location is very good, public rooms smart, receptionist pleasant, cooked breakfast fine. Downside - rooms a bit tatty, peeling paint on radiator, furniture very tired. We will probably go back to Brighton for 2 nights next time - most hotels only accept 2 night bookings at the weekend - and have to pay the extra.

There is a general lack of places to stay in Worthing, but we booked this on the back of good reviews on this website. This was a dreadful mistake.

We arrived on Saturday evening, about 7pm, to find that there was a wedding reception, with disco and live band, going on. Imagine our horror when we then found out that the room we had been given was on the first floor, directly about the sound system. We asked to change room, but were told that no other rooms were available - and were assured that the noise would quieten down by about 10pm.

At 10pm, we came back from dinner and sat on the bed in our room, watching the whole room physically vibrate with the sound. I have no problem with people having a good time at a wedding reception - but what I do have a problem with is the hotel not informing you at the time of booking that the only room they had was the one directly above the music. Would I have booked if I had known that? Of course not. Noone would.

Eventually, I went back down to reception and informed them that they could either find me another room, or I would only pay them £30 for the room. Miraculously, at that point, another room was found. This was a large suite - and we passed a comfortable night.

Breakfast was OK - although the waitresses stood round and had an extended chat with each other before choosing to serve anyone. The food wasn't bad - although the scrambled eggs were cold.

The hotel has great potential. The location is fabulous - right on the beach, and there are some good restaurants and bars round the corner. The rooms are a reasonable size and have good high ceilings. However, the decor looks like my grandmother's house - done in the 1960s and hardly touched since. It was reasonably clean - but it took a very long time to get any hot water out of the shower.

We go to Worthing regularly - but I won't be staying here again.

“Nice hotel”

The Beach Hotel

Had a nice stay for a week whilst on business. However there are a wide variety of rooms available , all have the basic reqiurements but there location in the hotel ranges from not so pleasent( facing the car park at the rear) to nice(facing the sea front). The Staff are very pleasent on the whole, hard working aiming to please.

Large comfortable hotel, pleasant staff. We had two single rooms on the first floor with sea views and balconies. Good sized rooms, especially for singles, nicely furnished with en suite bathroom with bath, shower over, wash basin and WC. Unfortunately the hotel is on a main road and there is quite a lot of traffic noise, more so at weekends. Restaurant is pleasant and the starters and main courses for the set meal allow plenty of choice and are nicely cooked and presented. Unfortunately the dessert menu does not change from day to day and could be a bit monotonous if you were staying for long. Worthing is a nice base for Chichester, Arundel, Brighton and Portsmouth and the hotel has a large car park at the rear which is locked at night.

“Excellent hotel, let down by restaurant”

The Beach Hotel

I stayed here on family business in January 2006. The hotel shows its character the moment one sees it - since the building is almost quintessentially 1930's in design. The foyer is spacious, set out with comfortable brown leather armchairs, almost like one of the old liners.
The (all-English) staff were welcoming, helpful and efficient throughout my stay, and nothing was too much trouble. My room overlooking the sea was spacious: although only a single it was bigger than some doubles I've been in elsewhere. It was also spotlessly clean. If the decor was a little bland, it was also appropriate for the hotel's character. Room service was exemplary - it's pretty rare for one's room to have been cleaned each day by the time one has finished breakfast.
The only gripe I have is with the restaurant, and that has to be qualified by saying that they were in the middle of rebuilding works, which may have affected their capacity. Certainly it was why there was only a limited range of dishes. But it doesn't really account for underseasoned soup, overcooked meat, and small portions of vegetables. As for the pudding, well, I suppose it may have been that it was very subtly flavoured and my taste-buds were coarse. So I had dinner elsewhere for the rest of my stay. Breakfast, by the way, was perfectly OK.
The poor food is a shame, because the room and the service really were excellent. I'd certainly be happy to stay there again.
