We also stayed at The Beach on 2 December when there was a very noisy wedding reception going on. We had not been told about it either, I suspect this was because we were only staying for 1 night. This has happened to us before in other hotels with varying degrees of noise going on throughout the night - something you need to be aware of if you stay over on a Saturday night.
We were down to see Paul Weller play at Brighton and were unable to find a hotel for just the one night so booked in at the Beach and took a taxi across. This meant we arrived back at 11.30 p.m. to find the hotel locked and no-one to let us in. The noise was very loud indeed. The porter did eventually arrive and opened the decrepit old door - needs replacing - but said he had been on the phone. Not good enough really. The noise went on until 1 a.m., we were right above the disco but for us it wasn't worth the hassle of moving.
As for The Beach, location is very good, public rooms smart, receptionist pleasant, cooked breakfast fine. Downside - rooms a bit tatty, peeling paint on radiator, furniture very tired. We will probably go back to Brighton for 2 nights next time - most hotels only accept 2 night bookings at the weekend - and have to pay the extra.
