What can i say, i stayed at the The Connaught Hotel at the beginning of this month and from the minute i walked thru the doors, i felt at home. Staff were very professional and friendly, the food in the restaurant was of real quality and the cleaniliness of the bedrooms was just a bonus. Definitely will stay again.

were do i start???
*4 rooms, i only stayed 2 nights and even then i should have been moved to yet another room but at this point i was past the point of repacking etc so grinned and bear it. Had i been staying longer or was on holiday here it would have been a DISASTER!
i regularly stay away in UK with work so i am used to the standards of mid-stream 3* hotels. This is definatly NOT.
*the Best Western chain is usually very reputable and until this year i have always been pleased with the hotels, rooms, price and food etc. However, this was the worst hotel i have ever stayed in.
*Lighting didnt work, the towel rails did not work and were hanging off, the bins were not emptied in any of these rooms so i was faced with the last tenant rubbish, the loo rolls were never put on the holders but either on the back of the toilet or on the towel rail, no milk left with the beverages, extremely uncomfortabe beds, heating of its own accord, tv having all colour chanels except BBC1 - black and white, random WIFI connection, the bathroom shelf tilts forward so do nor place anything on them!
*I only ate breakfast with them on the second morning and this was a disgrace. the hot buffet was self service with the serving spoons kept within the food containers which were hot, the bacon as harder than cardboard, the fried eggs were overheated past edible stage, beans, tomatoes and sausages were ok. that was the choice!
the cold buffet of cereals was more select however they had run out of a couple of different juices and did not bother to fill them up in the half hour i was there.
i requested brown bread toast which arrived, eventually. i also requested scrambled eggs on toast which arrived as a childs portion?
i had to request hot water for the teabag!

**On a plus:
*i was moved very promptly each time and after the 3rd move i arrived back to the next new room to a bottle of wine as apology!
*the bathroom is fab. clean and modern, hot water.
*the receptionist:Adel, was most apologetic and arranged each of my moves for me along with the bottle of wine.
*the location near Wolverhampton was good
*free WIFI in all rooms (when it worked)
*i booked through laterooms, com which was much cheaper than with Best Western direct.
*lovely clean and modern bedroom with hot water
*clean bedding and towels.
*clean reception and restaurant

We had booked this hotel with some friends purely because of it's location to the Tough Guy competition. The staff were friendly and efficient. Breakfast was very good and the service was good especially as the hotel was packed with other competitors. We considered skipping breakfast on teh basis of the poor reviews of service but it appears that they have sorted that one out.
The room was average size. The bed was comfy. However the shower room appeared to be in a wardrobe. The room had obviously been refurbished recently and the paintwork had not been finished off. (our friends found the shower curtain in a packet in the bath!) The shower was really good though. We would pick this hotel again for next year. We had a very nice meal at the italian which was 5 minutes walk away.

I stayed at this Hotel for one night in August, with 3 other friends. We had booked a room each, with breakfast included. We had a great night out at the races and on return to the Hotel we arranged to meet for breakfast the following morning at 09.00. On arriving in the restaurant for breakfast, which was half full, it became very apparent that the Waitress was working on her own and obviously rushed off her feet, so we sat patiently waiting fo her to come and take our order, there were no refreshments left such as juice, coffee & tea had to be ordered but nevertheless wecould see the Waitress' predicament. However after being sat there for 50 minutes, the waitress had acknowledged that the order hadnt been taken and still hadnt taken it, we asked - politely. The waitress proceeded to start shouting at us saying it wasnt her fault that everyone in the hotel had decided to come down for breakfast at the same time, she is rushed off her feet we should have come down earlier etc etc. We were gobsmacked!!! We tried to complain to the Manager but there werent any on duty! We complained to the Chef, who was the most senior person there, who then also blamed us and said that 4 chefs had walked out that week he was working 80 hr weeks etc etc. I have come from the hospitality trade and as much as it can be incredibly stressfull and you want to scream at times I wouldnt have dared! So congratulations to the new manager, Mr Bhindra, you have obviously excelled in training your staff in customer service, you obviously understand the importance of providing good service and understanding that a happy workforce will ultimately put those extra £££ in your profit margin, from your satisfied customers. I would not ever stay in one of these hotels again. We initially felt sorry for the Waitress but now feel she was incredibly rude and should perhaps look for some other way of earning a living she is undoubtedly not cut out for front of house / customer service etc she has alot to learn about people skills. My advice - stay somewhere else!

There have been some significant changes since I last stayed. However, it must still be the same manager. The hotel itself has been significantly refurbished and the bedrooms are worlds better than they were. However, the staff while working hard are obviously overworked and under-trained. On the Saturday morning, there was one chef and one waitress for 56 guests. There was a man in a suit who did nothing but clear tables, not sure who he was, but he left the waitress to take all of the flak from the guests waiting for breakfast. Breakfast took around an hour and twenty minutes, from sitting down. Not the fault of the staff. They obviously have some sort of buffet arrangement during the week, and why don't they do it at weekends? Final gripe - and this continues from previous stays - no late bar for residents. The bar is there, if there's a reception on there are staff but no late drinks for residents!! Still a long way to go!! If Best Western read their "hotels" reviews this one needs a lot of help to get it to your usual standard!!
