My husband and I stayed for 2 nights May 2012. This hotel is a refreshing change from the huge corporate chains.
Our room was spotless and plenty big enough, likewise the en suite. The bed was comfy too. The public areas are nicely decorated and welcoming.
The hotel is a bit like a 'rabbit warren' - much bigger than it looks from outside. It is five minutes drive from the centre of Knutsford which is a really charming place - lots of lovely pubs and restaurants and an entrance to the beautiful Tatton Park. If you go to Knutsford to eat, try Loch Fyne, seafood restaurant with delicious fish etc very reasonably priced - try their house red, very good and excellent value. For something more glamorous and upmarket, try Gusto - you may spot the odd famous footballer or two, but book in advance and take a big wallet.
The staff at Cottons are extremely friendly, helpful and efficient. Before our stay I had looked up the menu and was looking forward to a rib-eye steak, but on arrival at the restaurant we were given a 'reduced' menu applicable to Sunday which did not feature them - not a problem, I asked the hostess if we could still have the rib-eye and 2 were produced. The food was very good, the wines rather pricey, but then most hotel wines are. The breakfasts are magnificent and excellent value for money, we thought.
Do take a swimsuit as the hotel has a lovely indoor pool, beautifully warm and inviting, and a large outdoor hot-tub, likewise. The gym is also very well-equipped and there are tennis courts too.
I took the time to fill out a comment card, as I always do at hotels, and a couple of weeks later was surprised to receive a charming personal letter from the manager replying to what I had said - they really do read them and take notice. This is the first time in 40 years of travelling round the world that this has happened - well done Cottons !!

We always strive to deliver excellent customer service, so I was pleased to read your comments on how friendly and helpful our staff were. There are a variety of dining options that we offer and we aim to provide great choice to suit all requirements and, judging by your feedback, we seem to be offering a good balance. I am delighted that you enjoyed the rib-eye steaks, not to mention the famous ‘Shire breakfast’.
I do hope that you and your husband will return and we look forward to seeing you in the not too distant future.
