We have just returned from a 2 day break at the Windlestrae Hotel. The hotel is like a time warp. I am in my mid-thirties and the decor of this hotel has never been fashionable during my conscious lifetime! The carpets downstairs are a blue floral pattern. The hotel bar looks like the day room of an old peoples home.
The rooms were a little nicer than the communal areas and were quite spacious with a nice view. However, the decor again was just awful and so dated.
However, despite the dreadful aesthetics of the hotel, the staff were absolutely fantastic. I don't think I have ever come across more cheery, enthusiastic staff at a hotel. Nothing at all was too much trouble for them.
We stayed at the hotel during the Open Golf Championships and I assume that we paid a premium price because of that. However, if it really is £95 per night to stay there, then I would advise you to either save your money and get a travel lodge type place or pay the extra £10 and go to a nice international chain hotel..
