My family have just returned from a weeks at the Regency Dolphin hotel.
Our 2 children loved it. The facilities in the town & seafront were all in easy walking distance. The staff were helpful & friendly. The food was good, even to encouraging the children to eat by making the Pizza into a smiley face using cucumber & tomato with the beans as hair.

The hotel is undergoing a refurbishment programme & whilst work is taking a summer break, the areas that have been completed are looking good.

I would happily take my family back again.

I had the misfortune to book this hotel for a 2 day break wiith my husband and youngest daughter. We arrived before check in time and were told that we couldn't check in til 2pm, that was fine, but the receptionists manner left a lot to be desired. We decided to have a look around the hotel. There was a musty smell, which made me feel like it could do with a good clean. We walked out to the pool and garden area, the pool was empty and the garden area was not a pleasant place to sit in, unlike the web site description. I was annoyed because the reason I booked this hotel was for the pool. When we finally checked in and were given the key to our room which I think at the furthest corner of the hotel. The door to our room wouldn't lock, there was massive brown stain on the ceiling and the wardrobe wobbled when touched we were disgusted.

I complained to reception, we were then given a room which was a smoking room, we had specifically asked for non smoking, the smell was awful, the headboard had a cigarette burn in it.

Back to reception, the 3rd room we were shown was an adjoining room, one room had 2 single beds, where our daughter could sleep and the other had a double bed and the bathroom. The beds had blankets and empty duvet covers on them, they had obviously run out of bed spreads, the bathroom had a bidet in it which was badly cracked and the bathroom floor did not look clean. The beds were uncomfortable. Again we could smell a musty unclean smell.

Needless to say we were not third time lucky and checked out of this hotel and found another one. The Elizabeth Hotel. The room was cleaner, but when you really looked the windows and paintwork needed washing down, and it all needed redecoration. The service at breafast was so slow. They were both 3 * hotels, but I have stayed in better 3* hotels than this. I would not go back to either of them again. I found the attitude of most of the staff in both these hotels was one of not bothering. Infact I phoned the tourism board and was told Great Yarmouth doesn't have 4* hotels and if this is what the 3*'s offer I won't be going back to this part of the country again.
