“Fantastic Break”

Savill Court Hotel

28 Oct 2007

I checked this site after booking my break at Savill Court, and read some pretty damning reviews, but I decided that people do like to complain, and not many praise. I am glad I took the rest of the reviews on this site with a pinch of salt. My wife and I have just returned from a 2-night break at Savill Court and we have had a fantastic time. We stayed in Room 105, which is next to Room 107, and there was some noise occasionally, but I cannot see how it could be from fridge generators, as the kitchens were nowhere near these rooms. It seemed to me to be the extractors they fit in the en-suite bathrooms, as they have no windows. They ran for about 30-seconds at a time, so wasn't really any inconvenience at all. Room 105 was splendid. I have read people on this site slating the size of the rooms, but we had plenty of room. This room was in the original part of the hotel, not the new extension, so had the most magnificent stone framed windows. The room was spotless, as was the en-suite. The spa was great, with a good size swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna, etc. We ate in the Library Restaurant on Saturday night, and the service and the food was exemplary. All the dealings we had with the staff was positive, yes most of them are foreign, but they were all extremely helpful. The hotel and it's surroundings are also fantastic. So all in all we had a great break. Would we stay there again - definitely. Would we recommend it to friends - no hesitation. Why then have I only given it a rating of 4 out of 5, well there is always room for improvement!

“Room with a view????”

Savill Court Hotel

I am actually staying in this hotel as I type! Like other reviewers I was very impressed by the beautiful location and grounds. The hotel is near to Windsor and in a quiet location (until the next flight from Heathrow passes overhead)

Quick check in - but I am slightly worried that when I was given my check-in form to complete the form displayed an address, e-mail and telephone number that weren't mine (ok so I have a common name but they never asked before handing it to me).

The lift was broken so I had to carry my bag up two flights of stairs up into the to the second floor. After eventually finding my room in the maze of corridors I was greeted by the ONLY hotel room I have ever stayed in which is SMALLER than my bedroom at home. Nicely decorated but very hot and worst of all no view. When I say no view I really mean NO VIEW!

There are two "A3" sized frosted windows at about 5 1/2 feet from the floor. On opening these to let in some air and see if I could catch a glimpse of sky I found the only thing I could see is the wrinkled roof insulation and chicken wire.

There is a fan which is so loud it is akin to a 747 engine. The shower squirts water at odd angles (my room booking specified bath) and I don't know how someone on the larger side could possibly manage to use it - it is tiny!

I ordered room service last night at 20:30. I was a bit worried when the lady taking my order asked what dressing I wanted on my Caesar salad. I pointed out that it normally came with the same type - Caesar???? At 21:30 I rang up to ask where it was - this is after I had already had a phone call to confirm my order (surely one caeser salad with chicken is not too difficult to write down). Food came at 21:45. Dried up chicken on a half decent salad. Not really worth the money.

I won't be coming here again and I will tell my colleagues who are booked in for tomorrow to change their booking.

“Worst hotel I've ever stayed in!”

I recently booked 2 nights at this allegedly 4 star hotel in the Macdonald hotel chain, on the way back from business travel in europe to wind down and relax before returning to work.
Myself and my girlfriend arrived late, all we wanted to do was crash out. We were checked in OK, given no information. Our room was on the top floor and the lifts were out of order, no porter help was offered so we struggled upstairs.
The room looked very good on appearance, but was extremely hot so we opened the windows to discover a wedding party going on downstairs with smokers/drinkers outside being very noisy. As we were very tired we just went to bed only to be awoken at 01:00 for a fire alarm. The evacuation was chaos, no sweep/role call was done, people did not assemble in the correct area, people congregated at the lobby (not great if building is on fire). The manager was a mess, telling people it was prob a false alarm which resulted in people sneaking back in. Lots of people still inside due to no building check. It was a false alarm in the end, luckily!
2nd night, another wedding reception, even more noisy. This time at 01:30 there is a power cut which triggers emergency lights to come on in every room and wake up half the hotel.

I believe this hotel has recently been renovated but appears superficially to be 4 star but underneath the surface is really 2/3 star. Room looked great but shower awful, water flow cutting off intermittently, no information given out by reception on leisure facilities, breakfast chaos - staff struggling to speak english.

It felt like the wedding guests had all the staffs attention to the deteriment of other guests.
I would not stay here again, and this hotel is shockingly overpriced for the service that you get.

“Good Hotel”

Savill Court Hotel

This hotel has been recently renovated so it may be different than what you remember or have read. The rooms are nice but small for American standards and there was no air conditioning, but you could open the large windows (if on an outside facing room). The location is very near Windsor. The train station is about 10 minutes drive, so you do need a car if you are staying here or depend on a taxi. There is a pool and workout facility which is also very nice but only open from 7AM-8PM, not ideal if you want to workout very early or late. Bathrooms are small, but I just chalk that up to the English charm. Definitely stay here if you want to get a taste of the UK lifestyle, if not than stay at the Marriott.

“Sixteen hours of hell!!”

Savill Court Hotel

15 May 2007

Stayed 12 May after taking sixteen year old son and friend to Twickenham to watch rugby thought we would spoil ourselves with nice overnight stay having travelled down from Chester. What can I say apart from do not go! room 107 next to fridge generators asked to be moved as wall and floor were vibrating only had single room left so husband stayed in 107 and I took single more on that later...... Went for dinner at 8pm came away at 11pm service was so slow had to ask for wine twice, soup like dishwater, crusty skin on tartare sauce, bread before starter and then not offered any more until half way through main course!! what was the point of that! Dessert was inedible and disgusting heated up in the microwave. Restaurant manager asked my husband if he had enjoyed his meal to which he replied "I have had better" and listed all the faults, manager suggested we might "like a drink on him" we refused.

Large party in "Great Hall" they had visit from a stage act dressed as SAS men complete with guns and screams and shouting - nice when you are trying to enjoy a nice quite dinner.

And so to bed ha ha by the time I got to my single room (128) the party was in full swing, complained about noise to be told "sorry madam party on until 2pm". Back to room 107 which by comparison seemed quieter until 4.45 when gave up and went back to single room, room was cold could not do window up as catch was broken and due to the fact that it was straight out onto a flat roof had to wake husband to come and see if he could shut it, which he did with a pair of scissors! just got to sleep and was awoken by loud thump on investigation fire escape information had been stuck on the back of the door with glue and had slid to floor! this hotel really is a joke.

Only good thing I can say is breakfast was good lots of selection and a good english cooked breakfast.

On check out told the receptionist (trainee manager) to take off 12% service charge as the waiting staff were so slow. He did not even ask if everything else was OK, well it was not OK would never stay in another Macdonald hotel again....
