I had to stay at this hotel in March/April 2008 on a business trip as my company is located just around the corner. Coming to the UK I was prepared for the worst as far as hotels are concerned and being so pessimistic turned out to be o.k. as I got what I expected.
As usual, all buildings look great from the outside in the UK and even the lobby and the reception area look quite posh. However, as soon as you get into your room, this is all over.
O.K., I have to say that the rooms are extremly clean, but that is the only positive thing to be pointed out. The rooms are so tiny that in week 1 there was not even space for my suitcase and I had to leave it by the door resulting in the fact that the door could no longer be opened completely.
Apart from this, the windows are not tight so that there is a contstant draft in the room which can be extremly unpleasant in spring.
The bathroom and the shower were also absolutely small and I will never understand why there are always two faucets (one for cold water and one for warm water) in English hotels...
The reception, bar and restaurant staff for some reason is pretty young which makes a positive impression, however, one could get the feeling that the complete hotel staff only comprises apprentices and trainees as they are acting very inexperienced and unconfident all the time. When I returned in week 2 of my business trip, the reception desk girl repeated the same standard phrase again and explained in detail where to find the bar etc. although I had already told her that I knew all this. Also, incompetence is omnipresent as reception desk staff was unable to provide me with the hotel's phone no. so that I could receive a call from outside in my room! Only after asking 5 times (and apparently getting 5 different numbers) I was successful!
To sum it all up, the hotel is in the middle of nowhere and if you don't have a car you are completely stranded, as (for whatever reason) it also seems to be almost impossible to get a taxi there... Also, you can literally leave your cellphone at home as there is hardly a network in the hotel area.
At an unreasonably high rate, this appears to be almost comical.
Next time I am in this area, I will rather stay at a bed and breakfast, but Savill Court, never again!
