“Had a wonderful time”

Runnymede Hotel & Spa

Our family of four (including two small kids 6 and 3) went just for a short weekend break and loved it! Don't judge the hotel by its exterior, which looks a bit red-brick but inside is much more stylish than one might imagine. The best bits of the hotel are the spa facilities and swimming pool (hubby had a fantastic sports massage) and the kids absolutely loved the swimming pool, which unusually has a shallow pool specially for young children and lots of toys to play with. Sauna, steam room and jacuzzi also excellent. We met some really friendly staff, although others were a little more offhand. The food was very nice at Charlie Bell's restaurant. Although advertised as adjacent to play area, the climbing frame and swings are actually well out of site, so you couldn't really eat whilst eating with young children outside. Food at the Angler's Bar and Conservatory (with a view of river) is too expensive though (£9 average for sandwich). The other best thing about the hotel was our room - absolutely enormous and newly decorated, with a walk-in wardrobe and walk-in shower room, it also had large flat-screen TV and bunk beds with chlidren's sleeping bags - all for a very reasonable price. Breakfast was delicious and the choices of food well-thought out. Will definitely come back to stay again -even though there were some minor quibbles, it really did the job of offering a family friendly relaxing time for all of us.

“Disappointing”

Runnymede Hotel & Spa

We stayed here as we were attending a wedding. Be warned, as you drive up you think you are entering a university halls of residence, the exterior is truly awful. We got to our room which was not a river view and it was boiling. We complained and were told it would be fixed while we were at the wedding, so I got ready in 35 degree heat. When we got back to our room at 2am it was even hotter and nothing had been done. We complained but were told they were full and couldnt be moved therefore opened the window as far as we could (which was minimal) and just put up with it. Breakfast was SO busy with long queues, not helped by the fact the West Ham and LLanelli teams were staying there. On check out we were charged for drinks we didnt have and also when asked how was our stay said terrible!

Two weeks later we received a letter from the hotel offering us a night free. for all our troubles We took them up on this and got a riverview room. It was nice but I have to say for £200 a night I have stayed in far nicer places,

Thank you for your review of the Runnymede Hotel & Spa regarding your stay in April 2006.
Whilst we appreciate the exterior of the hotel is not to everybody’s taste, once guests enter the hotel and experience the riverside terraces and décor within the lounge areas and bedrooms hopefully they soon forget the initial impression. However, we are currently working on plans to improve the exterior of the building and hope that this will create a more pleasing initial impression for our guests.
The air conditioning in the bedrooms operate as individual units and unfortunately may develop a fault and fail to provide the necessary cool air needed. When this does happen we do try to fix the fault immediately but on this occasion we were unable to rectify the fault and therefore needed to take the unit apart. This, however, is not something that could be done whilst a guest is using the room. Sometimes matters are outside our control but we did acknowledge the issues you had and in response offered a complimentary nights stay which we feel was a suitable gesture of compensation; a gesture that you accepted and re-visited the hotel. In addition, we have also spent over £60,000 since you stayed in April 2006 on a new chiller unit to improve the quality of the air conditioning in all the bedrooms. With all this in mind I am hoping that this review is seen as somewhat dated, and perhaps not entirely appropriate.

“Nice relaxing break”

The hotel has really improved from years ago and service does come with a smile! The room was comfortable with plenty of space (room 173) Staff were very helpfull and made our stay relaxing. The spa was a welcome to us with the cold wintery weather outside. Dinner/Dance was busy on the evening and food was of a good standard. It was full and so we ended up waiting 45 minutes for our starters. All in all a perfect hotel to wind down and relax. We will be back again to sample the spa and all the other amenities.

“Bring earplugs.”

Oh dear. English hotel. In other words, overrated and expensive.

To be fair, the weather was rotten. This however did show up the poor workmanship; the car park's tarmac is uneven, and large puddles form. This is a real nuisance (and this is a 4-star hotel?). And since December in England is dark, I could not step outside to admire the river.

The worst aspect was the A/C. Even when switched off, there was a constant hum. The first night I slept badly. The next two nights I had to use earplugs.

On the plus side, the swimming pool is big and nice. The gym is OK for a hotel gym.

Service? On two of the days, the newspaper I'd ordered was never delivered (but it was charged to me, of course).

My room was standard. Size OK, nice big flat TV, coffee and tea-making facilities.

Thank you for your review of the Runnymede Hotel & Spa. We value guests' feedback as it is only through such comments that we can strive to improve the services we offer.
The Runnymede Hotel & Spa is indeed built in a flood plain and as mentioned in this review the weather had been 'rotten' for a few days. Regretfully when the river rises this does affect a portion of our car park and the low lying areas do collect water which is outside our control although we are seeking ways to improve the situation.
We shall also review your other points raised and endeavour to ensure no repetition as we do pride ourselves on the standards of hospitality we offer our guests and indeed as we have recently upgraded all our Health Spa facilities and gym equipment I am delighted you liked the pool and gym areas .

“Very nice rooms and really helpful staff”

Runnymede Hotel & Spa

We booked this as part of a Legoland package. We found the rooms really comfortable and quite stylish. The hotel was able to give us adjoining rooms for the children which lots of hotels can't do. The reservation staff were really helpful getting the legoland tickets to us during the postal strike. One of our children was sick while staying and again they were incredibly helpful.
