Our family of four (including two small kids 6 and 3) went just for a short weekend break and loved it! Don't judge the hotel by its exterior, which looks a bit red-brick but inside is much more stylish than one might imagine. The best bits of the hotel are the spa facilities and swimming pool (hubby had a fantastic sports massage) and the kids absolutely loved the swimming pool, which unusually has a shallow pool specially for young children and lots of toys to play with. Sauna, steam room and jacuzzi also excellent. We met some really friendly staff, although others were a little more offhand. The food was very nice at Charlie Bell's restaurant. Although advertised as adjacent to play area, the climbing frame and swings are actually well out of site, so you couldn't really eat whilst eating with young children outside. Food at the Angler's Bar and Conservatory (with a view of river) is too expensive though (£9 average for sandwich). The other best thing about the hotel was our room - absolutely enormous and newly decorated, with a walk-in wardrobe and walk-in shower room, it also had large flat-screen TV and bunk beds with chlidren's sleeping bags - all for a very reasonable price. Breakfast was delicious and the choices of food well-thought out. Will definitely come back to stay again -even though there were some minor quibbles, it really did the job of offering a family friendly relaxing time for all of us.
