My brothers and sisters with their wives and husbands, along with my parents traveled to Devon from the US to visit the land where our ancestors once lived. My older brother found information about Alex and his Devon tours and we couldn't be happier that he did! Alex made the few days which we had with him a delight. He took us to the small out of the way towns where our family came from, churches where they were married and to top it off, surprised us with a visit with three living relatives that he found! He also took us to many of the sites of Devon. My favorite was Kitty Jay's grave and having Devon Cream Tea at Two Bridges Hotel. He went above and beyond the call to provide an amazing experience for us. He is extremely knowledgable and full of fascinating facts. He kept records of our visit and sent us a summary along with pictures. We hated to say good-bye for in the couple of days we had become so enamored with him that we felt like he was part of the family.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this wonderful review. I had a great time showing you around Devon, and I'm glad that you enjoyed being here so much. I sincerely hope that I see you all again one day as I enjoyed your company very much, and I'd be glad to show you or other family members around Devon again, or around other parts of the UK. Many thanks!
My husband and I spent two days with Alex, who was exceptionally well prepared, having paid meticulous attention to our wants and expectations. He arranged very special, unforgettable experiences that we will savor for many years, including a private tour of a unique, magnificent private estate. His research, knowledge, and passion for guiding and for Devon are contagious, and we will seek his assistance on future travel to England because we are confident he will bring the same attention to any itinerary as he does to Devon. Without rushing, he packed a remarkable number of highlights into our brief visit, and he took us to delightful local venues for lunch and tea. Alex is as courteous to fellow drivers as to his guests, and he is an expert driver of his very comfortable vehicle. After our trip, Alex provided us with a fulsome narrative of our adventures, including photos he took--unique in our experiences with guides in many parts of the world.
My sister, cousin and I (over 60 but young at heart!) had the most delightful day in Devon with Alex! He was more like a pampering host than a tour guide! He was extremely knowledgable, prepared specifically for our particular questions and interests (related to our ancestral roots), with a quick wit and easy going disposition. We saw and learned so much more than we expected. We also enjoyed a wonderful pub lunch and lovely afternoon tea and cake!! As good as it gets!! Thank you, Alex!!!
On October 2, 2014, we finally got to meet a most delightful, young man, Alex Graeme. We had been in touch with Alex for several months prior to our trip to the UK. Within our group of three, one 18 years old and two eighty year olds, we had mistakenly tried to work in too much for our day or simply didn't know how to please the three of us within that one day. We soon learned that Alex is not only an excellent guide with a marvelous personality, but a native who is extremely knowledgeable about the entire area. He took our choices, made careful but meaningful suggestions, and then set up an enjoyable, entertaining, and memorable day that became the highlight of our trip to the UK. He was constantly concerned about our comfort as he assessed what we were enjoying. And he did this very simply --- through comfortable conversation and observation. We have traveled the world for years with Tauck Tours and River Cruises, with Avalon, Princess World Cruises and Oceania. Needless to say, we have had many, many guides. Fortunately, our guides have been top notch, making sure we enjoyed the areas of their expertise. But, of all our guides, Alex is by far our favorite, for he is quick to laugh but quicker to show concern. He not only made the day fit both teenager and elderly, but he constantly made our teenager feel included as he fascinated all of us with intriguing history, legends, and stories of the area.
Now, my husband is trying to find a way to enlist Alex for a tour in Scotland!
Excellent driver, informative guide, caring person...Alex made our day in Devon more than we ever dreamed it could be. He exceeded our expectations with his knowledge and good nature, as well as his provision for our interests and our comfort. His love of the area is evident; we found it to be an area that's easy to love. We hope to have Alex guide us again in the future; next time it will be for more than one day!
Alex is very helpful and offers an excellent day, he is good cheerful company, along with careful driving around the narrow Devonshire lanes
