“Room 22 - with a view!”

Booked by internet having read all the reviews but not finding anything with the same value/location combo. Had to smile when we were duly alloted .... you guessed it Room 22! Well I like to find out things for myself and yes, this room does get noise from the reception (in the morning) and to some lesser extent the bar in the evening. We found the bar closed at 11pm so not really an issue and if you go to the New Forest to lie in bed in the morning, you'll miss a great bacon and egg breakfast and time out in the great outdoors. Yes the decor is old but I wouldn't say it was dirty and the room is very big and regal with high ceilings and a large window. Nice view of the garden but similarly everyone can see in so if you are a bit of an exhibitionist you will get plenty of opportunity.
We rented bikes, spent a fortune on french cuisine (elsewhere) and had a thoroughly good time.
Go for it!

We booked this hotel for one night and whilst it is in a good location the external appearance was an immediate concern, peeling paint and a generally poor state. Our room was also far from suitable, curtains hanging off rails, stains on the carpet, mildew round the bath, noisey water pipes and an extremely hard and uncomfortable bed and furniture that was also tired and tatty. This was a premier room for which we had paid an additional fee. On the plus side the staff were very helpul and the food was adequate and enjoyable. We spoke to Mr C; the manager who excepted our concerns, he also reduced our bill for DB&B by £20 To £169 for one night. We all agreed that the hotel needed a major refurbishment and if this was achieved this could be an excellent hotel in a very good location. In the meantime a thorough clean and tidy would be very beneficial.

“Disappointing”

Forest Park Hotel

Good location for touring the area.Pleasant garden. Pool not in use due to repairs being carried out. Room in new wing was clean and nicely furnished but shower in bathroom impossible to regulate! Broken remote for T.V. was rteported but nothing done to replace it. Hotel corridors were shabby, wallpaper falling off and paintwork in need of freshening up. The dinners were disappointing with a poor standard for a 3 star hotel. The only redeeming feature was the pleasant staff.

“The Room 22 nightmare continues”

Forest Park Hotel

If you like the idea of sharing your room with the late night revellers in the bar then try the strangely named premier room number 22. Located on the landing above the reception and bar area and separated only by a poor fitting door you can experience the noise until the very last person heads off to bed in the wee small hours. Take a good book to read as the tv reception isn't too good and by the early hours you'll have finished it. The room still smells but this is now masked by a plug in room freshener that will take your breath away. Try the less than luxurious bathroom that has a definite 70's style to it but remember to pack your own mould cleaner and a tool kit to carry out all those essential repairs. A couple of extra layers of clothing will help supplement the inadequate heating . Don't think you'll sleep on in the morning as the reception noise will have you up plenty early enough to make your complaints ... on the other hand don't bother you'll be wasting your energy ... next time just sleep in the car ... and don't bother writing to the hotel head office as you'll be wasting a stamp.

Although I agree with the comments about the premier rooms,we were lucky and arrived earlier than a lot of the other guests, and our very helpful receptionist showed us two other rooms and we were able to choosea room with a refurbished bathroom and flatscreen TV. The room and general impression from the hotel was very clean, staff very friendly and helpful. Definitely needs some TLC as some people had great difficulty in getting out of the 'collapsed' sofas and easy chairs. Overall it was a nice, friendly stay and although hotel is tired, still had a good atmosphere. and good value for DBB at £65 per person in premier room.
