Unfortunately we did not read other reviews on this website before booking the Watersplash for the weekend to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. The first room we were shown into was reminiscent of a grotty 70's B&B - absolutely filthy and stinking of years of sweat and grime. We complained and were moved to a slightly cleaner room, although the manager could not seem to understand what we were complaining about. The place has not seen a lick of paint or a duster for donkeys' years. We had no intention of dining there due to lack of atmosphere and cleanliness, but did make the mistake of sampling the breakfast - overcooked and tasteless. At £118 a night - a "reduced" B&B rate, it is disgustingly overpriced. We will be complaining to the AA - God knows when they last inspected it, but its stars need to removed. Avoid this place at all costs - it is a health hazard and complete waste of money.

We had to stay here. The hotel we booked was overbooked and we were transfered to this dated hotel. There was a tea making facility set in the room, however all covered with full of dust, wall paper is half ripped off, a lots of dead flowers in the garden. Yes there is a swiming pool, but only their staff was using it.... I could not believe they charge 69GBP per person for that lowest quality hotel. Never ever again.

Very strange hotel - the bedroom you enter by the sink area, the two different cleaners cleaning my room on the same day, the waiter whisking my plate away whilst I was still eating food off it at breakfast, the bobby trapped iron that smeared scale all over my white shirt, and on...

Totally agree with your reviewer of last weekend. We stayed there last July for a weekend; it was the place that my late father-in-law had been going to for about ten years and had recommended it - "they were always very helpful to him". So, we thought as a valued guest who had only fairly recently passed on we could expect some level of welcome at least.
FAR FROM IT!!
Entered the dingy reception area - a half-empty glass sitting on a shelf (still there when we left 2 days later!). The Manager made no attempt to speak to us, offer condolence etc. We were given a disgusting room on the top floor where staff quarters obviously were as we met them coming down stairs. Filthy room, carpet, torn curtain; broken radio above the bed, threadbare towels. Food was awful, watery cauliflower accompanied our steak and a school scoop of mashed potato (Smash). Other choices were casseroles and this was mid summer (hot). Drinks terrace full of weeds, filthy tables and chairs.
We were so disappointed - to think the money our father in law had been spending there for years, not knowing any different probably. Feel sorry for the other old folk who regularly go there and get so ripped off. How do they award these AA Stars?
