“Staff not trust worthy DON't go there!”

Careys Manor

2 Jul 2008

I booked a weekend stay at Careys Manor for a birthday treat for my Sister,
All was going well until we were due to leave when unfortunately I left a very expensive pair of shoes in our room. I reported it to the staff but they said they could not find them, and said they would phone me, they did not.
I had to ring two days later, and was told they had not been found, so I wrote to the manager and said they must have been stolen, as I was wearing them on arrival and then they disappeared. I had a very curt reply saying that he had every faith in the integrity of his staff, this uterly spoilt what would have been a lovely stay!
I went on a special offer with "The Good Housekeeping" magazine, but be warned as when you arrive the treatments and food are incredibly expensive!
I felt the hotel could have offered me a free treatment as a sweetner,
I might then have not written this, so be warned if you go there!

I am very sorry that this reviewer believes our staff to be untrustworthy. The reviewer when checking out searched her bag and announced a pair of sandals to be missing. The duty manager checked the bedroom immediately; at this stage no other member of staff had cause to enter the room. There was no sign of the sandals. The duty manager also went to Senspa, the hotel’s spa and again there was no sign of the missing sandals. Every effort was made but to no avail. I do have complete faith in the team and know them to be honest and trustworthy. Items are often left by guests; even last weekend a guest left a watch and rings which was handed in immediately and returned to the grateful owner. James Hiley-Jones, General Manager

“Award winning restaurant is a must!”

Careys Manor

22 Jun 2008

My partner and I visited this hotel for a relaxing weekend break.
We were attracted to the hotel for two reasons: neither of us had ever visited the New Forest area, and the hotels main restaurant had been awarded two AA stars (We are both real foodies).

The hotel was comfortable, although our room was a little smaller than expected. We had booked a double room, but were initially given a twin room. This was quickly rectified.

From the hotel details, you get the impression that the gardens
surrounding the hotel are quite extensive (which was not the case) but this wasnt too much of a problem, being that the surrounding area was so lovely.

There are 3 restaurants mentioned on the hotels web- site. There is a so-called french bistro in the grounds which is fine for a lunch-time snack (but not much more!) and within the hotel there is a Thai restaurant. The food was really good, but unfortunately after being shown to our table, we were then left for twenty minutes (despite trying desperately to get someones attention) before even being offered a drink!

However, I leave the best until last! The food in the main restaurant was a total delight, from the very substancial breakfast offered, to the wonderful evening menu. Not only was the food fantastic, the staff in the restaurant were an absolute delight, and could not do enough for you. Thank you all very much indeed! In fact, all of the hotel staff were extremely polite and friendly - particularly the bar staff.
The Thai spa in the hotel was lovely too, and I would certainly consider going back to Careys for a spa break next time round.

“Superb Weekend”

Careys Manor

18 Jun 2008

We booked a two-night stay (Friday-Sun) a few days before we were due to arrive to take advantage of one of the offers they provide for those booking at the last minute. We got the offer of two free evening meals for both nights (normally cost £79.00 per couple per night).
The occasion was our first wedding anniversary and so I bought a bunch of red roses and a card and dropped them off at the hotel at lunchtime to be put into our room as a surprise (I pass the hotel to/from work every day). They sorted this out no problem.
On arrival the car was parked for us in the carpark at the back and after check in the porter took our bag to the room.
The first floor garden room was wonderful with a lovely view out to the front of the hotel.
The decor was very pleasant and the hospitality tray faultless.
The flat screen TV was a bonus too.
A bowl of fruit and a happy anniversary card from the duty hotel manager was a nice touch too.
The evening meal was delicious with much of the produce locally sourced.
The wine was reasonably priced and as we didn't finish it we asked them to keep it for the evening meal the following day.
On the Saturday we took the opportunity of spending £70 for the spa experience for two which you can use from 0700-2000 (if you go from 1500 the price is only £40.00 per couple - worth knowing about).
You get to use the pool, jacuzzi, steam and sauna (which all guests get) plus the hydropool with many features, shower experiences, more saunas and steam rooms and a heated lounge relaxation room.
We also tried the separate relaxation area away from the spa which was, well, relaxing!
We did not try any treatments or the gym (which looked very well equipped and modern) or use the Thai Zen Garden Restaurant but it looked first class.
The evening meal on the second evening was as equally delicious as the previous night.
On Sunday at about 0615 we were disturbed by a fire alarm going off so we wandered outside to see lots of people milling about in their gowns. Eventually the alarms went off so we decided to take advantage of the Swimming Pool and steam room etc at 0700 when it opened (and promptly too!).
On checking out they apologised for the inconvenience of the alarms going off and to our surprise a few days later got a letter expressing the same thing and offering a half-price stay for two!!
The staff were outstanding and VERY friendly (and genuinely so) and we shall definitely be going there again in the very near future.
Oh, the breakfasts were amazing!!!!!!
Oh, I nearly forgot - after getting back from breakfast on the Saturday we had a box of flowers in the room waiting for us - an unexpected and very thoughtful touch again.
I would recommend this hotel and spa unreservedly.

A friend and I went away for a much needed revival break and couldn't have found a more perfect location.
The staff were exceptional which just enhanced the beautiful surroundings and facilites.
Good food, wine and company - we're planning our next visit already.

I booked the Couples package at this Hotel & Spa as a surprise for my girlfriend. The Hotel is in beautiful grounds and from the outside looks wonderful. The inside is a little dated however this adds to the charm. The quality of the food both in the Manor Restaurant and Zen Restaurant is second to none. We were both blown away. The Spa is truly one of the most amazing places I have ever been to, the staff were extremely friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The thunder and lightning showers were fabulous and as for the quality and choice of treatments, simply incredible! Thai pyjamas, slippers, robes, fresh smoothies... . It was a little on the expensive side but worth it. We highly recommend it!
