I booked the Bay Guest house at very short notice, because our usual choices were unable to accommodate us.What follows is an honest review of this establishment. The review of the room is based on room 2, which is situated at the front of the B and B and overlooks a very busy main road, traffic noise can be an issue, but it does quieten down after midnight. One can see the beach from this room.
The room was clean and well furnished and surprisingly had an electric radiator, rather than central heating, the radiator had a built in timer, so could be set to come on and go off at times to suit, or in my case, set to stay on, but setting the thermostat on the radiator kept the room at a nice temperature. In so many other guest houses with central heating, you are at the mercy of the owner who decides when the heating should come on and go off!!
The bed was very comfortable with a very heavy duvet!! No chance of getting cold!!
The furniture in my room was in general fairly new and in good condition with plenty of hanging space in the wardrobe.
The en-suite was a little on the small side, but was perfectly satisfactory, with a good selection of toiletries and even a sewing kit!!
The hospitality try had a good selection of teas and coffees etc and the usual packs of biscuits. However a nice touch was the after dinner mints, 4 in my room!
Jean - the owner is very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast - as with so many other B and B's I've stayed in, you are expected to choose your breakfast choice the night before, I can understand the reason for doing this, but it makes you feel a little awkward if you change your mind! A previous review did comment on the fact that the full english comprised of one of everything - I can confirm this is the case, I feel that a couple of sausages and a couple of slices of bacon would be more acceptable and surely wouldn't cost much extra? That criticism apart, there was an excellent choice of cereals, fruit juices, etc. Breakfast is served between 8:30 and 9, however Jean does seem to ask that you be there at 8:30!!
OK, so there were a couple of negatives, car parking would be a real issue if the B and B was full, it would be a logistical nightmare getting in and out of a car park which can accommodate 8 cars, but leaves no space to get or out of the car park if full. There is very little on street parking in this area, so if unable to park at the B and B you could have real problems finding somewhere to park.
Secondly, I find it annoying that when paying by card a £1.50 charge is levied,
It cost us £111 for 2 rooms for one night, not overly expensive for a guest house literally a 2 minute walk from the beach.
So would I use this B and B again - yes!!
