The Premier Inn is supposed to be a budget hotel and yet we paid approximately £50 pppn for B& B. Hardly budget and yet the hotel is budget with, for example, no lounge, few toiletries (only soap), no biscuits on the hospitality tray etc. Also, there was no shaving point in the room. There was only one chair as the settee had been made up into a bed even though there were only 2 of us. For the cost of the room I expect better.
The restaurant was also disappointing. Whilst I cannot fault the food at breakfast it still feels like eating in a pub rather than in a restaurant. But at dinner it was appalling. They obviously were very short staffed and each night there was a list of food not available. We were on the meal deal and the choice is limited and then further limited by the food not available that night. On the second night we arrived about 6.45pm and were told there was about a 45 minute wait and so we booked a table for 7.30 pm and then went back to the room. At 7.30 we were shown to a table in a room which seemed not to be normally used. The starter came about 10 minutes after we ordered it but then we sat around for about 45 minutes after finishing it. My wife saw the manager who immediately arranged for our starter dishes to be cleared away and for our main course to be served. It seems as though the system is that when the starter is cleared the order for the next course is then actioned but as no one had been assigned to our table nothing had happened. On the other 2 days we were there service was also very slow.
On the meal deal we were supposed to have the option of a 175 ml glass of wine. On the first night I was given a 125 ml glass. On complaining the glass was topped up. The waiters said they were unaware of what we should have been given. The second night I was again given a 125 ml glass and on pointing out what we should have the wine was poured into a 250 ml glass and I was given 250 ml of wine. I pointed this out to the manager when he came to clear our table and because of the long wait we were given a free extra drink. However, despite pointing the problem out to the manager, on the 3rd night I was again given a 125 ml glass which was then topped up using a 5ml spirit measure. Is it legal to offer 175 ml of wine if they don’t have 175 ml glasses?
Overall, the Premier Inn needs to do better.
