“The Woodlands is an excellent Hotel”

The Woodlands Hotel

We (my husband and I) just came back from a wonderful stay at the Woodlands Hotel, at the Lake District. Our stay was perfect. In fact we ended up staying an extra night.

I had a peek at most of the rooms and I was amazed at how well they were designed. Each room was unique and so cosy that you feel you're at home than in a Hotel.

Alan was excellent; each day we stayed he would draw maps of where we should go and what we should do. It was brilliant - made our job so easy having little knowledge of the Lake District. Being vegetarian, Alan also recommended some lovely places to eat, which was nice. After deciding to stay another night, we asked to move into another room; Alan had no problems with this and moved us into an even better room!!! Honestly, he was the perfect host. Thank you very much, Alan, if you are reading this.

The Hotel itself is in a nice location so you can easily take a walk to Windermere or Bowness. We also managed to use the complimentary leisure centre - it was nice as we had the pool to ourselves and then enjoyed a lovely relaxing time in a sauna and steam room. The pool is quite small and looks very much like a public leisure centre so dont expect a lot, but we enjoyed it as we had the place to ourselves.

We went away for a romantic weekend being our first wedding anniversary and the Hotel was an excellent choice. I recommend this place wholeheartedly - you will not be disappointed.

Stayed at this lovely hotel for one night passing through bowness. The woodlands has been renovated and the owners have put a lot of energy and thought into making this a top class yet inviting hotel. Perfect location, modern room and great lounge/breakfast area. The rooms have just been renovated and are superb. The breakfast was outstanding! The hotel has just recently gained a 5th star rating and it is well deserved! we will return again!!!

“Fantastic”

Just had a great weekend at the Woodlands Hotel, the weather could have been kinder but the hotel more than made up for this with a really warm welcome. The room was much more than the usual bed and breakfast places in the Lakes, and the breakfast was superb, lots of choice freshly cooked for a change!! Had a lovely meal in Jerichos, the owners booked this for us and really was as good as they said! Didn´t touch our car for three days, which suited us just fine, lots to do and see locally and could have done with a few more days!! Will be back for sure!!!!

“Cosy Lakes Hotel”

The Woodlands Hotel

A great hotel if you fancy a nice weekend in the Lakes, I've taken my girlfriend there twice now, we just love the place. The hotel is an excellent base for exploring Windermere as well as being close to the towns of Bowness and Windermere, so there are places to go and eat out at night.

The small bar in the hotel is a nice place to unwind, in front of the fire, after a day of exploring. The breakfast is excellent, as well. The owners make you feel very welcome and you will probably feel right at home, staying here! It also ended up being my base, when I proposed to my girlfriend, by the lake.

“The Woodlands Hotel, Windermere”

The Woodlands Hotel

Unfortunately, we only stayed here for one night....wish it could have been longer !
I booked the hotel directly, after researching & reading reviews on the internet, & was pleased with the efficient booking process & quick receipt of confirmation.

The hotel is a lovely building which has recently been fully refurbished in a modern style.

It is in a great location for walking to Bowness (shops, cafes, restaurants etc) & Lake Windermere (where you can join the boat trips), or into Windermere in the opposite direction (where you'll find a small number of shops, eateries, & the Lakeland shop, & train station).

We were very impressed with the hotel - friendly staff, clean communal areas / rooms, good range of information regarding local attractions etc, & complimentary leisure pass for a nearby country club (we didn't have time to use this, so can't comment).

Just to advise, the hotel is situated on the main A-road through Windermere to Bowness, so front rooms may experience some traffic noise in high season. We were at the back of the hotel, so couldn't hear traffic, but instead could hear a river trickling when the window was open :o)

Before I forget.....there is parking in front of the hotel, which is a great advantage.

Our room was modern in decoration & had a huge, comfy bed. There was a tray with the facilities to make your own drinks, & there was a travel hair dryer in the drawer, & an iron in the wardrobe if required. There were also blankets in the wardrobe, if needed.

Other reviewers have commented on being able to hear other guests every move in the hotel, which I can believe, as we could hear conversations from in the bar / lounge area or the hallway (we had a ground floor room). Bearing in mind we were there out of season & the hotel was empty, so I'm not sure what it would be like in peak season when fully booked.

Breakfast was gorgeous & we would highly recommend it !
We were welcomed into the dining room & offered a choice of cereals (Cornflakes, Frosties, Weetabix, museli), with dried fruits, grapefruit segments, a fruit bowl, a selection of yoghurts, & orange juice, which you help yourself to. We then had toast, & a choice of tea of freshly ground coffee, follwed by a full English breakfast with a choice of scrambled or fried egg - this was very well presented & delicious !!! (For anyone wondering.....you get an egg, 2 rashers of bacon, a local Cumberland sausage, mushrooms, 1/2 a tomato, baked beans & a mini potato waffle).
As far as I am aware, they use local produce too, which is a bonus !

If you're looking for a nice place to eat in the evening, Hyltons in Bowness was lovely & reasonably priced....highly recommended !

Very reluctant to leave the hotel, & will definately consider staying here again if we're back in the area.
