Unfortunately, we only stayed here for one night....wish it could have been longer !
I booked the hotel directly, after researching & reading reviews on the internet, & was pleased with the efficient booking process & quick receipt of confirmation.
The hotel is a lovely building which has recently been fully refurbished in a modern style.
It is in a great location for walking to Bowness (shops, cafes, restaurants etc) & Lake Windermere (where you can join the boat trips), or into Windermere in the opposite direction (where you'll find a small number of shops, eateries, & the Lakeland shop, & train station).
We were very impressed with the hotel - friendly staff, clean communal areas / rooms, good range of information regarding local attractions etc, & complimentary leisure pass for a nearby country club (we didn't have time to use this, so can't comment).
Just to advise, the hotel is situated on the main A-road through Windermere to Bowness, so front rooms may experience some traffic noise in high season. We were at the back of the hotel, so couldn't hear traffic, but instead could hear a river trickling when the window was open :o)
Before I forget.....there is parking in front of the hotel, which is a great advantage.
Our room was modern in decoration & had a huge, comfy bed. There was a tray with the facilities to make your own drinks, & there was a travel hair dryer in the drawer, & an iron in the wardrobe if required. There were also blankets in the wardrobe, if needed.
Other reviewers have commented on being able to hear other guests every move in the hotel, which I can believe, as we could hear conversations from in the bar / lounge area or the hallway (we had a ground floor room). Bearing in mind we were there out of season & the hotel was empty, so I'm not sure what it would be like in peak season when fully booked.
Breakfast was gorgeous & we would highly recommend it !
We were welcomed into the dining room & offered a choice of cereals (Cornflakes, Frosties, Weetabix, museli), with dried fruits, grapefruit segments, a fruit bowl, a selection of yoghurts, & orange juice, which you help yourself to. We then had toast, & a choice of tea of freshly ground coffee, follwed by a full English breakfast with a choice of scrambled or fried egg - this was very well presented & delicious !!! (For anyone wondering.....you get an egg, 2 rashers of bacon, a local Cumberland sausage, mushrooms, 1/2 a tomato, baked beans & a mini potato waffle).
As far as I am aware, they use local produce too, which is a bonus !
If you're looking for a nice place to eat in the evening, Hyltons in Bowness was lovely & reasonably priced....highly recommended !
Very reluctant to leave the hotel, & will definately consider staying here again if we're back in the area.
