“great value”

Angus Hotel

Having stayed at the Angus several times now and booked again I had to join Trip Advisor so that I could write a review of this really good value 3 star hotel. The staff are very good and friendly, the rooms are clean well appointed and although the view is not always great they are comfortable. The resturant is pleasing and the food, be it dinner, breakfast or a bar lunch is of a good standard. We both enjoy a swim, sauna and spa every morning in good facilities the only grumble is you sometimes have to share with locals who are allowed in.
Overall The Angus is a great place to stay for a long weekend with good walks easy reach of the hills and glens but be warned Blairgowrie has no good bars so stay in the hotel for drinks.

“Never Never Never Stay Here”

Angus Hotel

The worst hotel I've ever stayed in in my life.

We arrived on Friday night to be given the room directly opposite the local nightclub, which is right next to the hotel, and were kept up by drunken people spilling out of the club all night until about 4.30am.

The room itself was tiny, old and dated. The pillows were neither feather not polyester, more like something resembling a bean bag. The bathroom was unpleasant, no window, the walls were dirty and there was a flimsy sliding door separating the bathroom from the room.

And if you think perhaps we were just unlucky then read on....

We asked the next morning to move rooms, and were handed the keys to room 25 and assured it was "in the middle of nowhere and very quiet".

Well she was right about one thing, it was in the middle of nowhere, it was up and down about 6 flights of stairs, through 5 five fire doors and eventually we found it. The room was marginally better than the first, it overlooked a flat grey roof in the middle of the hotel and smelt of cigarette smoke, but frankly we didn't care, it was going to be quiet.

But it wasn't. We returned to our from dinner at about 10.30 on Saturday night, to find every fixture and fitting in the room vibrating to the music coming from the ball room, which it transpired was underneath our room. Not being able to hear each other speak we both turned round and went straight back to reception to ask to be moved. The only other room that they could offer us was the one we'd stayed in the night before, so we decided to stay put, having been assured that the music would stop at midnight.

Forced to set up camp in my sister's room for an hour and a half (quieter but could still hear the music AND the noise from the club outside), we returned to our room at midnight to find that the band carried on playing until almost 1am.

Speaking to the rest of our party the next morning it seems everyone, and we were spread out across the hotel, could hear the music, and whilst it was obviously not as loud or as intrusive as it was in our room, it was still loud enough to disturb their sleep.

Needless to say this was the worst hotel experience of our lives, we will never ever ever ever contemplate staying here again and would urge you to do the same. Please don't waste your money or ruin your weekend!

We stayed at this hotel overnight in June 2007. To say we were disappointed in the standard of the accommodation would be an understatement. The bedroom was dark and dingy, the carpet was grubby, the bathroom had a terrible stench of dampness and the overall standard of decor was, at best, shabby. The standard of food served in the restaurant was very poor and having a meal there is not an experience we would wish to repeat. To be honest we were glad to leave. I do not believe this hotel warrants it's 3* rating. The only positive point we could make would be the cheerful, friendly staff who were helpful at all times. Needless to say, we will not be returning to the Angus Hotel.

“Bedroom like a prison”

We were allocated room 10 - no outside view, only a brick wall with iron girders and a net to keep out pidgeons. The flat roof directly outside the window was full of cigarette butts and was filthy - not what you would expect of a 3 star hotel - we did not stay. Phoned the manager on our return home to be informed that the room was, in his opion, of an acceptable standard! We will be contacting the scottish tourist board.

“Great wee pool and sauna”

Angus Hotel

5/5 found this review helpful

My wife and I stayed here from 11-13 February 07. We were met by a smile from the Scottish staff at the front desk with a large smile and given appropriate information. It was nice to be greeted by a local rather than someone from another country.

The staff in general were great and nothing was too much bother. For the price we paid the food was excellent and we made much use of the pool, sauna and jacuzzi. The hotel is in a very central position and comfortable. The room was clean and room service excellent. The staff were very accomodating of children too.

If you do not have a car there is a bus stop outside with a reasonable service to Perth and Dundee. If you are more energetic there are some lovely walks in the surrounding area.

We would have no hesitation to returning to The Angus at a future occasion.
