“Good all round”

The Elmfield

We were booked into the honeymoon suite, this room is right by the front door,so you dont feel complete privacy, also your room window is overlooking the path down to the swimming pool, so people making their way down to the pool or back from, can look straight into the room. The room itself is lovely although we were dissappointed not to have a bath, but a tiny shower cubicle and toilet.

Not what you would imagine from a honeymoon suite.

The breakfast was lovely, and the hosts are accommodating.

We chose the hotel as it had a swimming pool there are not many hotels in Ilfracombe with a swimming pool.

They seem to be very family friendly ideal if you have children.

“A really friendly small hotel, well cared for & great service”

The Elmfield

18 Jun 2008

What a wonderful little hotel. Recently changed hands and
now owned by a very friendly couple from London who have revamped the whole place.
We knew we'd chosen well when we were greeted with a pot of tea and biscuits.
We selected The Elmfield because it had an indoor swimming pool. The pool was really warm and with the jacuzzzi & sauna...all of which we had to ourselves for a while... we had a very relaxing time. Sliding doors lead to the garden and sitting area, and there is also some excercise equipment
The eight bedrooms have been tastfully redecorated and with large flat-screen TVs and comfortable chairs, the bathrooms clean and cared for. A lounge room with drop-down screen for TV, a games room and a bar all add to the comfort. The hotel is run as if you are staying in someones house. Nothing is too much trouble.
Breakfast was excellent, with lots of fresh fruit & cereals and then a 'speciality' of english muffins with poached eggs and mushrooms or ham or smoked salmon. I got the impression they'd create whatever you wanted. Evening meals were also available, although we didn't try them.
A very nice peacefull setting in a quiet road with good views, and easy access to the cliff path with wonderful views in either direction.
We stayed for four nights and had a really great time.

Had a great stay with our family of four at The Elmfield. We were greeted by Zoe with a cup of tea and then shown to our rooms. We stayed in the Family suite which was wonderful. We had two separate rooms connected by a private hallway (can be locked to the outer hall). So our children had their privacy and we had ours. The rooms were large and beautifully decorated. The peace and quiet and the light from the large windows made this a special retreat. We used the pool every day, the kids had a blast. The game room was next to the dining room and once the kids were done with their meals they could venture over there. Breakfast was excellent. After a day at the beach the pool and the hotel were a lovely restful place to come back to. Zoe and Matt are very accomodating and welcoming. Would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay again!

“Elmfield is excellent”

The Elmfield

Really fantastic hotel with excellent facilities for a weekend away. Made to feel very welcome throughout our stay. The breakfast was very good, and the hotel in a good location for the local town of Illfracombe, which is in walking distance. The owners Matt and Zoe were very hospitable, and we would definitely recommend the hotel for a few days escape.

“At last something different!”

We have just got back from the week-long holiday in North Devon, Ilfracome where we stayed in Elmfield Hotel. We had wonderful time mainly because of Zoe and Matt, new owners of the hotel, made an effort to create something different. We are both young professionals working in London and we travel around UK quite a bit. Elmfield Hotel fills an important gap in the market as it caters for young people and young families who often get discouraged either by prize of hotels who would accomodate young families' needs or by overal decor and atmosphere which most of the time I would describe as old-fashion. Well, Elmfield is really different. I'm no expert on interior design but I can say it's very modern yet functional and cosy with antique features. I have certainly 'borrowed' one or two ideas for my home. The food is excellent. Forget the beans for breakfast, in addition to variety of eggs you can get much more exciting french toast or granola. And it tastes great - totally home-made-like. On top of that there is a swiming pool, bar and game room.
We felt very welcome and very relaxed during our stay at Elmfield. This is perfect for a couple who are looking for a bit of indulgence but also for young family. You can also choose from luxurious to less luxurious rooms so you won't be stretching your budget too much. Well done Zoe and Matt!
I hope you'll have good and busy season!
