Dined here the second week of opening. A fantastic renovation of what was a tired, dated building. Now a bright, modern, relaxing feel to the bar area and restaurant.
We first went to the bar and ordered drinks as we were a little early, but was told our table was ready, and the staff took our drinks through, and showed us to our table.
One thing that really stands out about this place is how warm, and genuine the staff are. Honestly, they couldnt do enough for you, without being too intrusive.
We do have a couple of little 'things' we do like with our meal, for example, we like our red wine chilled. When we asked, there was no hassle atall, and was promptly given an ice bucket to chill our wine.
They were really clued up on everything on the menu, we were a litlle unsure about a few things, and they were a great help.
The food, was fantastic.....though.......we had bread and dipping oils at first, this was really filling, you get plenty. So we shared a starter of scallops - Amazing - . After quite a long wait though, the waitress came to us to explain that the chef wasnt happy with the venison, and that the delay was because he was doing another one. She was very apologetic, and offered to compensate us. When the mains did arrive, Venison, and a Blackend salmon, it was absolutely lovely.
We were too full for a sweet, though they looked to die for!!! So settled for a couple of espressos instead....again....good quality.
The only other glitch was there was a problem with the debit/credit card machine, but this can and does happen anywhere and was just one of those things.
At the end of the meal, we went to the bar for a drink, and was asked by the staff how we enjoyed it, and was there anything they could do to improve, and generally had a chat. It was nice to have that personal touch afterwards, and not the 'had your money, now you can go' attitude.
All in all, it was a fantastic experience, and really look forward to our next visit.
Good luck to all at the metro, all credit where its due.
