“Spend the extra £15 and stay in the Hilton!!!”

Ok so we stayed here for one night before a long haul flight the next day.

We arrived about 3pm. checked in with the rudest receptionist ive seen, booked the car in for the 15days parking and went to the room.

The rooms were an ok size, smelt DISGUSTING, bathroom was horrible with exposed pipes, dirty bath etc. did not feel clean

But not ones to moan (as we were only there one night) we left our suitcases and went to the bar for drinks and food.

Bar is a bit run down but i supose that could be quite quirky....
got the the bar and found they had one type of beer, no malibu, no rum, no wine, no pineapple juice, limited ammounts of coke.
In their defence they had just been taken over by Menzies Chequers (instead of Thistle).

So we got what drinks we could and asked about food. We were told the chef is not in till 4, that was ok so we waited in the beer "garden" looking out on to a noisy busy roundabout

at 4 we went back - still no chef and we were told the chef isnt going to bother coming in as it wnt get busy until at least 6 o clock

as we were all very hungry - and frankly abit annoyed at this point so we walked about 20mins down the road to a hungry horse (the air ballloon) Which was lovely

So we came back went to be and set on our way for a fantastic holiday.

we had to then go back and get the car which was quite simple really, and got in the car. before we left the car we set the trip meter which now said 33 miles?! we were tired and annoyed at this point so we just left it and drove home.

we are really not complainers normally and as we were only there for one night we didnt like to kick up a fuss but i really wouldnt reccommend this place. its not the worst place in the world but its not a nice start to the holiday. maybe it will improve when it fully becomes Menzies Chequers?

We have since found out we could have stayed in the hilton for an extra £15!

Got this through Priceline for an overnight stay on our way to India via London. Reasonably close to the airport -- shuttle costs $2.50/person. Run down, peeling wallpaper, really tired looking, across the street from a gas station and convenience store -- all in all, just another motel close to the airport.
Would pay a few more bucks to stay in a comfortable place.

Decided to stay here for one night as the prices in the Gatwick area were ASTRONOMICAL!! This was the only good thing about this hotel. Bus to the hotel (H3) comes every :30 minutes but it has no place to store luggage so everyone, despite their physical condition, must drag there bags up and into the bus as there is no storage area on the bottom, this included elderly people and women with many bags and children in tow. It was as if England just discovered tourism 2 weeks ago. Check in took awhile, the room was fair and in the bathroom the facia was coming off the walls and the shower sprayed out in 360 degrees thus neccesitating a well closed shower curtain. The restaurant charged me $16.00 or 8 pounds for a tuna salad, beer was extra. Gatwick Airport, while less of a refugee camp then its older brother Heathrow, bulged at the seams and security seemed to go out of its way to anger everyone. I made 10 seperate flights on this tour and Gatwick was the only one who made me check my carry on bag. I would suggest that the U.K. either shape up its airports from the current third world ghetto stage or issue an all points bulliton for tourists NOT to come and visit for the next 10 years!

“Awful, awful, awful”

What can I say that hasn't already been said? I can usually find something positive to say about hotels but this place really is very bad. I'm just relieved that we arrived at 11pm and left for our flight at 5.30 the next morning!

The decor in the main parts of the hotel is tired with peeling paint and bare boards in places - tape on the carpet to hold it down and stop people tripping over it. Our room was small and had a musty smell with tired decoration. The bathroom was teeny and very slippery when the fllor was wet. We actually managed to lock ourselves out of the bathroom from the outside so we were in the room itself and couldn't get the bathroom door to open!! We rang reception and a very helpful man arrived fairly quickly with a screwdriver - he managed to get the door unlocked but told us we had to be careful when shutting the bathroom door or it might happen again!! The room was very hot so we had to sleep with the window open which was very noisy especially as it seemed that just outside our window was where people congregated to smoke, so we had people chatting outside our window all night. I reckon I got about 2 hours sleep. I couldn't believe that we had to pay a fiver each for the 'courtesy' bus to and from the airport - never had to pay for any of the courtesy busses when we've stayed at airport hotels before.

We waited yonks for the bus on the way back from our holiday and luckily when we got back to the hotel our car was still there and they had our car keys - others weren't so lucky, staff on reception couldn't locate one poor familes car key, they just kept holding up keys saying is this one yours!! A manager eventually came out to assist the reception staff who didn't speak much english and was frankly just plain rude.

All in all I'd say look elsewhere - not worth it even if it is just somewhere to lay your head overnight before a flight.

Don't stay there, really. Such a grim place stuck on a roundabout with no escape. Courtesy coach from Gatwick decided to wait for forever at one of the stops to change drivers. I'm sure the driver thought his endless banter was funny. It wasn't.

Check in was hopeless. Check in girls asking unecessarily for information but couldn't understand when it was given to them. We had to repeat the postcode 6 times before giving up and writing it down. We asked for the times of the coach in the morning and were told at 10 to and 20 past the hour. We said we would get the 10 to 10. She told us that wouldn't get us there early enough and we needed the 20 past 10.....

Everything rather grubby and run down from the filthy canopy on the way in to the taped down carpet, flaked and stained paint everywhere in the room. The heat in the room was intolerable even with the window open and the pathetic fan full on. No chance of sleep at all.

Restaurant was completely empty - not surprising if it matched the standards of the rest of the hotel.

Pub attached to the hotel served absolutely average food. It has a place to sit outside but the charm of the garage and Sainsburys has limited charm.

Can't think of a positive thing to say.
