The term "B&B" doesn't really do justice to what is in store for guests of Pear Tree House. It obviously isn't a hotel or guest house, but it is so much more than just somewhere to sleep and have breakfast. It is a tranquil oasis from which you can explore the best of the North York Moors and North Yorkshire, that is if you can prise yourself from the beautifully-appointed rooms (in which you can enjoy tea or coffee in Denby cups!) or get to you to move from the breakfast table, where they served a hearty Yorkshire breakfast: bacon, eggs, sausages, mushrooms, tomatoes and black pudding. All the meat is from local butchers and their eggs are from their own free range hens.
Perhaps we need to think of a new category of accommodation into which Pear Tree House could be slotted. Categories aside, Sarah and Chris, the owners, were always attentive but never intrusive and they left you to your own devices. For ideas about where we could go and both were very knowledgable about the local area.
Pickering itself is a beautiful market town with a high proportion of independent shops, bars and restaurants. It is also the main station on the North York Moors Railway, which runs trains out to Whitby across the beautiful Yorkshire countryside.
We were in the largest room at Pear Tree House, which comfortably catered for me, ny wife and our two boys. The en suite bathroom was finished to very high standards and it is a wonder we made it further than the bedroom, such is the quality of the interior.
We would highly recommend Pear Tree House.
