“No fuss gateway to cornwall”

Lanhydrock Hotel and Golf Club

19 Dec 2007

We decided to head down to Cornwall for the weekend on a last minute decision and of course found just about every nice place listed in the Fromments guide to be fully occupied. We chanced upon this hotel on the internet and they had vacancies - in fact lots of it. This was a little worrying given that everywhere else was full. By the end of the trip we were actually quite happy with the hotel.

It is a fairly basic hotel catered largely for golfers. If you're looking for a pool/spa experience look elsewhere. There wasn't even a concierge. Our room however, was fairly spacious with a standard sized bathroom. As the hotel is fairly new, everything was clean. The best thing we liked about it was the restaurant called Nineteen - the food there was absolutely first class. It was pretty quiet while we were there - there seemed to be more staff than guests, perhaps not surprising given that we were there in the middle of winter.

We didnt play golf and were really there to check out some of the local attractions like the Eden Project, The Lost Gardens and the village of mevagissey. The hotel is fairly close to these places.

Not a bad choice if you are short of options.

“A great pit-stop for a business trip”

Lanhydrock Hotel and Golf Club

2 Dec 2007

I did not relish the prospect of having to drive all the way to Redruth and back for a business trip, so I decided to include an overnight stay and found this place nearby.

When I arrived in Bodmin it was dark and raining heavily so I had some trouble finding the place.

But once I arrived I realised I had made a good choice. The room was pleasant, modern and clean. The service was friendly and, once morning light had broken, I realised the setting was also rather pleasant (though I have zero interest in golf).

Best thing was the price. The whole deal -- dinner, room and a very fine "full Cornish breakfast" -- came to £114 inc. VAT.

I have to go to Cornwall again in two weeks time., Guess where I'll be staying?

“A little souless”

Lanhydrock Hotel and Golf Club

20 Nov 2007

Stayed here for 2 nights as part of our anniversary. Our room was ok, but the laminate flooring was lifting in the hall and the net curtains fell down each time we opened them! The view across the course is fabulous but not being golfers we did not appreciate the grass mowers outside our window every morning at 6.30. The rest of the accomodation is of a high standard and the restaurant is first class.
There was a golf competition there the weekend we stayed and you felt like you were intruding in the bar as you were not part of it. In saying that it is one of the best hotels in the area but i would take earplugs if i stayed again!

“Wow what a Hotel!”

Lanhydrock Hotel and Golf Club

This Hotel excelled in every respect. I travel a considerable amount and stay in many hotels every year. This is the very best experience that I have ever had. Great location, great Hotel, wonderful staff. A truely delightful room, excellent food-I am a vegan and they catered wonderfully for me. Nothing was to much for them. Peaceful location in wonderful setting (even though I am not a golf player).
I would not hesitate to recommend this Hotel to anyone. Its a three star but delivers as a five star.Great value for money. Please experience it for yourselves-you wont be disappointed!!

“Fantastic!”

Lanhydrock Hotel and Golf Club

1 Sep 2007

Really enjoyed our stay this winter -- especially in comparison with a rough customer service encounter in Fowey! The owners couldn't have
been nicer. New beds. Great views. Cookies in the bedroom! A welcoming meal since we were arriving very late. Caring staff generally. A great driving range. Classy, spotless and slightly exotic as an expanded golfing clubhouse. Quiet and restful. The property was well developed and had luxurious touches. And best of all, and awesome chef who not only cared about food but people, too. Such a contast to the Old Quay House! Can't wait to go back.
