Literally just got back from a 3 night stay at Algarve Guest House, Weston Super Mare. I stayed with my husband. I couldn't wait to share with you how fab it was!
Where do I start? The stay was absolutely great. Rob and I can't thank Jo and Chris enough for their wonderful hospitality and sharing their gorgeous home.
We arrived in Weston early on Tue. We found the house easily and went into Weston. We realised the parking was expensive along the sea front, as is often the case, so we returned to the house and we parked our car on the off-road parking available and cycled into town. Jo and Chris had no issue with this and welcomed us kindly and gave us our room key.
We would recommend cycling in and around Weston, it is very flat and saves on the parking cost - £7 for a full day along the seafront. AND Jo and Chris will lock away your bike safely if you don't want to use it.
When we returned to the Algarve, after our explore around town, we were welcomed with lovely home baked cake - how lovely is that?
Breakfast was great. All the usual cooked items were available, with lots of alternative choice too - beans on toast instead etc etc. Also available as standard were loads of different cereals, some i'd never even seen before! Jams and things like that, well, I think there were 3 different kinds of marmalade, at least 4 different kinds of jam. Butter, sunflower spread, even marmite was on the table as standard (you either love it or hate it). The cooked items were cooked beautifully and were good quality, no scrawny cheap bacon there - i'm really fussy about bacon, I hate the fat on it or if it's stringy, and I ate mine all up every morning! The toast available was home made, brown or white, as much as you like along with juice, fruit, yoghurts, milk etc etc etc. I thought I was in an expensive hotel, not a seaside guest house! If I had stayed any longer I would have gained half a stone in weight - the food was fabulous, and the home made bread and cakes, yummmmmmmmm!
Our room was really comfortable, beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. We had a good sized comfy double bed and there was an additional single in the room also. There were 2 comfy pillows each. The room was large and bright. There was loads of storage for your clothes (especially if you over-pack like me) - bed side units with drawers, as well as a wardrobe and chest of drawers, and still plenty of room to dress etc. The en-suite again was spotless. Lovely fluffy, clean towels, fresh each day and toiletries were all standard, even the loo paper was quilted! No cheap stuff ere! There was a TV/DVD on the wall with plenty of channels.
The tea and coffee making facilities in the room were great, as with breakfast the variety was above and beyond the norm in a guest house. I don't drink tea or coffee and usually have to bring my own drinks. Here there were at least 4 different types of tea (green, earl grey etc etc), coffee, hot chocolate and bottled water. As well as sugar and loads of milk etc. Usually you get 2 tea bags and 2 pouches of coffee with about 2 packs of milk - not here! Oh, I forgot the chocolate chip cookies along with all that too!
In summary the overall experience of our stay at Algarve Guest House was first class. Jo and Chris don't sell their home and the service they provide enough. They go out of their way to make their guests feel welcome, they are warm and lovely people. They don't have to bake cakes for guests, or fresh home made bread - but they do. They share their beautiful, clean and warm home with everyone who visits and the quality of their home and everything in it is above and beyond the usual B&B experience in the UK. They think that the way they are is 'normal' we stopped holidaying in the UK because we were fed up of over-priced poor quality experiences. Jo, Chris and their home are not 'normal' they are unique.
Thanks again Jo and Chris, all the way home Rob and I were discussing how we can fit in more weekends away at your home, as well as stop-overs on the way to Falmouth and The Lizard area. We plan 100% to be back again. You have restored our faith in holidays in the UK x x x x x x
Cycle in to town - parking in Weston is expensive - even at night. Plenty of places to lock your bik...
