Perhaps not a place for lovers of the sleek familiarity of hotel chains: a Dickensian place, but if somewhat sombre and perhaps a little shabby (as old piles are apt to be) it is most interesting, with curious furnishings, most unusual posters and prints on the walls; an excellent buffet breakfast, the best croissant I have ever had in England. If the bathroom fittings are liable to come away in your hand, the bathrooms - as the public rooms - are spacious. There is a separate shower, and the water splendidly hot. The location on the Thames needs no praise from me.
The staff unstintingly helpful, which reinforces the old-world atmosphere.
