I met friends there for my birthday lunch. It was a cold, crisp day and when we walked in and were shown the table I did think the furniture was somewhat basic and the chairs were definitely not designed to allow you to linger too long! I have to say that the service was very good and attentive and my friends' dog was warmly welcomed and given a biscuit from the doggy biscuit jar. On the whole the food was good, not spectacular, but enjoyable. I had a sort of fishy hors d'oeuvres (each bit being separately described on the menu making it sound more elaborate than it actually was) but each component was very tasty. The soup was good and the haggis balls were also enjoyed. Our main course of roast pheasant was also tasty, if unremarkable and I gather the pork hamburger was also good, if a little large a portion. The only disappointment was the pecan and maple syrup tart which was actually not very sweet and far too heavy on the nuts for any of us to crunch through. However, all in all, not a bad experience. I just wish there was a little more scope in the ratings - I would have liked to put it between Average and Very Good. Good would have been my preferred rating.
