This hotel is just the most magnificent place on earth. Sure it's expensive, but what do you expect from one of the most celebrated hotels in the world?! The rooms are impeccable, HUGE marble bathrooms, beautiful giant wood walk in closet (bring your shoes gals), lovely balconies. The gardens are breathtaking, as are the ruins that you can actually climb (!). The service was sensational, we were never treated with disrespect, we were treated like royalty. The Veranda restaurant was wonderful, we had the same waitstaff every night and they treated us like friends. Everything about this place is dreamlike, it's like being in a painting. The bath amenities alone are worth the visit, such great stuff and lots of it - no skimping here. We went at the end of the fall season right before it closed for the winter and it was just amazing, quiet, and fantastic. The only tip I could recommend is if you want to rent a boat, hop a cab to Como - it's about 1/4 of the price the Villa charges - we didn't realize this until after we had rented from the hotel. A must do is to take the hydrofoil from Como to Bellagio, you won't be disappointed - it is the most breathtaking journey and Bellagio is like a pearl. Excellent shopping for incredibly unique items (handpainted wooden trays, shoes, etc). I can't fathom how anyone could be disappointed w/Villa D'Este, it's like a slice of heaven and I can't imagine a more beautiful locale. Last tip, drinks in bar w/piano player will run you about $22 for one sapphire with tonic - okay, everythings expensive here and you shouldn't be staying here if you're watching pennies, but you may want to watch your consumption! If you never stay anywhere else on this earth, stay here - it's just enchanting!
