This is actually a review of the restaurant that is attached to the hotel, not the hotel itself.
We stayed just down the road from this place, and it looked very nice as we passed, with the beautiful fish layed out above their aquarium, so we decided to go one evening. The location is ok, as it is on the sea front, but actually it is behind the road that runs along the sea front, and overlooks some scrub land where boats are parked for repair – some trees obscure any view of the sea itself.
As we were on a budget, we decided on a mid-priced order from the a la carte menu, and a low-priced bottle of wine. The first problem was that they brought the wrong bottle of wine, but already opened. Although it was clearly the wrong wine (different grape) they argued that it was, and we eventually relented - turned out to be nice.
Secondly, when it came to the food we started ordering, but the waiter (restaurant manager) said 'come, come, how about some of our fish from the counter', and he insisted that we follow him to the aquarium. He then preceded to pile fish into a bowl and said 'how about this?' Stupidly we didn't ask how much it was going to cost, which we fully accept responsibility for (as an example, the prawns turned out to be about 5 pounds EACH...per prawn!).
Although the food was delicious, the bill came to well over 200 pounds (about 260 euros) for two people. Basically the man had piled the most expensive fish in the restaurant on that plate, and did it all with a massive grin on his face which we later realised was him seeing a pair of tourists and completely fleecing us. On top of this, they also forgot to bring us some of the other, cheaper food that we ordered, although charged us for it, and I had the embarassing job of walking down the restaurant to their office to explain to the manager that they had charged us for food we didn't receive (the other waiters explaining that I had to go see the manager). The final thing to ruin the night for me was the manager dragging one of the lobsters out of the tank, carting it dripping across the restaurant and flopping it down on the table next to us to show his mates. They all then started poking it while the manager continued smoking and blowing fumes all over it.
This place was in total contrast to the other, fairly priced, very friendly restaurants along the seafront. Food was gorgeous but I feel like we were robbed by a cunning restaurant manager who saw us coming.
