Our room was in a wonderful position, overlooking the via Libertini where all the smart young things promenade and display themselves in the Italian manner and which we could watch from our bedroom. The much mirrored en-suite bathroom has a view of the glorious baroque church next door; as has the large balcony where guest take their breakfast under huge sun umbrellas. The owner, Renata, could not have been more charming or helpful with advice for example on where best to eat or indeed in helping us lug our luggage up the two sets of stairs as we are a bit on the elderly side. As you would expect, the place was spotlessly clean and everything working, including the internet. Free parking tucked away on the forecourt of the church!
If you come to Lecce because you love over-the-top baroque and exuberant Italians, Lecce, Renata and her B&B will not disappoint.

We stayed at Centro Storico in October of 2006, and I wholeheartedly recommend this place if you plan to stay in Lecce. The location is fabulous - it is right in the center of the city. It takes about two minutes to walk to Piazza Oronzo - the central square of the city with its Roman amphitheater, and another 3-4 minutes to Duomo. The place is not too hard to locate although it is located in the narrow labyrinth of streets, but we found it pretty fast. From the train station, it is about 15 minutes walk to the property.
The property itself is very clean and the owners are very friendly and accomodative. We stayed on the top level which is located on the rooftop, and there is an amazing view of the roofs of this beautiful city. It was very relaxing after a nice dinner and pleasant walk around the center to come back to the B&B and sit on the rooftop and soak up the atmosphere.
The prices are reasonable, the location is great, simply put, this place is great.

“The Heart of Lecce”

The B&B centro storico is managed by an elegant Italian couple who know the lay of this southern land and who cater to every wish. In our three day stay, we saw most of the historical center, toured the magnificent coasts, east and west, and ate at fabulous local restaurants. We were even referred to a local self service laundry that took the “self” out of “self service;” we left the dirty stuff and returned in an hour to a clean, folded bundle. This small converted third floor walk-up has its own historical charm in terms of location, architecture and décor. The room also had refrigerator and stove; we could have fended for ourselves if the local food hadn’t been an easy and delicious alternative. On arrival, we had our own motorcade into and through the city center after the host met us on his motorcycle and led us through the baroque labyrinth of the old city. The night before we left was an important World Cup game of interest to me; he tracked us down at a nearby restaurant and gave us directions to a large screen outdoor trattoria where we watched the game. Any alternative to this historically consistent B&B would have robbed the charm of our three days in Lecce. We loved the experience from the set of keys that started us through the small portal in the massive wooden door into the grand atrium to the sense of importance we were accorded as guests.

I was incredibly surprised to find that my "room" at the Centro Storico B&B consisted of four rooms, including an outside rooftop eating and sitting area with a roof of strips of lovely fabric. This B&B in the old city section of Lecce offers what actually amounts to apartments, with full kitchens and all necessary utensils (as if a person would want to cook at home while staying in this city of wonderful restaurants), and rooms beautifully decorated with antiques. The price is great, breakfast is included, and the hosts are a lovely couple who provide plenty of help with directions to see Lecce's architectural treasures and visit the best restaurants for the area's famous food. This B&B is outstanding.

This B & B is above average value for the money, 70 euros for a double. Its location in the historical center is excellent. Arriving there for the first time requires being met at the Castello, a very large landmark, to be led into the tiny street (which does have some parking, although one has to back out!)This all worked out smoothly. The host, Mauro, is very hepful and pleasant, and he also speaks English. The view promised from the roof top garden turns out to be limited to a rather depressing assortment of some sad dying plants, dark gray stone building tops and TV antennas. It also requires climbing a precipitously steep flight of very tall steps. We spent one unhappy night in the rooftop room, which is quite dark as it has only one window, is painted red, and the light from the nine lamps might total 75 watts. However, when we moved to the main floor of the B&B, we were very happy with our large room with vaulted ceilings, two comfortable beds, a kitchenette that included a table and chairs, and a balcony. Lecce, a lovely and interesting city, seems to have few places to stay. The fancy hotel Patria Palace is expensive and full most of the time; the other hotels that I considered turned out to be on the edge of town and completely lacking charm. I was glad to have chosen Centro Storico B & B.
