Just returned from a 4 night break at the Val Di Sogno (17-21 Sept) and the hotel was fantastic. The Hotel's own website does not do it justice and doesn't give very much information. Don't be put off by the dingy looking pictures of the rooms, or the plastic looking chairs on the terrace - these give the wrong impression (and the chairs have changed anyway) - I nearly didn't book this hotel because of these.

The views from the balconies are spectacular. The hotel is in a quiet position away from the main road and directly on the beach. Food is very good (both the half board dinner and the breakfast). Four course meal is chosen at breakfast - which I think is usual in this part of the world. Other reviewers are right - the wine at dinner is expensive - even the house wine.

The staff are very helpful and speak good german and english, nothing was too much trouble and they did everything they could to be accommodating (even opening my own wine for me on one occasion when I realised I didn't have a corkscrew)

The hotel has an outdoor heated pool in lovely gardens with lots of loungers arranged in the garden and around the pool. There is a table tennis table in the garden. Inside there is a jacuzzi, sauna, billiard table and exercise room.

The rooms are quite large - I think I had about the smallest at 20 meters square and this was fine. The superior ones are bigger and have a sitting area. All rooms have hairdryer, telephone, TV (CNN channel only in english) and air conditioning. They also have an emergency pull in the bathroom which we managed to test by accident - reception rang us within about 10 seconds of pulling it.

Stayed at the Val di Sogno for 7 days. Treasure of a hotel, staff friendly and helpful (many languages spoken). A small (38 rooms) family-run hotel. What a location! Rooms (all with balconies) directly overlooking the lake, in which you can swim - no intervening road. Private beach, lovely gardens with more than enough sun loungers for everyone. Outdoor pool, tennis available at the adjacent hotel. Walk along lakeside promenade into Malcesine takes around 20 minutes. Parking free and underground parking possible. Buses nearby and frequent. Boat trips from port in Malcesine.

Guests mainly German, but Italian, English and Dutch there too.
Many guests return. Good food. Bed, breakfast and evening meal is a convenient and a good deal. Food is fine, although wine a little pricey - but that is probably general in Italy. Local supermarket has similar wine from 3 euros a bottle.

No complaints, we had a most enjoyable holiday.

This hotel has the most amazing views of Lake Garda, along with many others, but this one is directly on the lakesideand looks straight down the lake. Whilst not luxurious it is more than comfortable. And in September it was wondefully peaceful. The staff are very friendly and coped with our lack of Italian graciously. The food whilst not being 5* was very varied , interesting and managed to offer food that would suit a picky eater and some unusual offerings as well.
Malcesine is an interesting little town and this is the place to be if you want to go up Mount Baldo, great trip.
This was our second visit to the hotel.

We stayed in Hotel Val di Sogno for 4 days end of July and had a very good holiday. The staff is very friendly and speak a lot of languages. We had a very spacious superior room under the top-floor, no design, but clean. The airco didn't work when we arrived, but the staff fixed it in no time. The pool is clean and nicely integrated in the garden, also good access to the private beach, fantastic views from the hotel. The food was good, although not consistently of the same level. The drinks are also rather expensive, but that's probably the case in this part of Italy. The dinner timing is only between 7h30 and 8h30 PM, we would have liked to have a dinner possibility until 9h00. A relaxing and good experience...

The hotel is set in beautiful gardens overlooking the lake, lovely pool area, nice restaurant and bar area and the staff are great nothing is too much trouble for them. Everything is spotless - with clean towels and bedding daily. The one thing that doesn't match up to the 4* rating is the rooms are very old fashioned and dated. You must request a lake view just for the wonderful setting it has however some rooms were slightly smaller than others and they were all double rooms.

If you want to walk into the resort of an evening it is fine but coming back later on as mentiond in a previous note it is abit of hike back - would suggest you jump a taxi on the return journey for the sake of 10 euros.

Overall it is lovely hotel, the rooms just modernising - the food in the restaurant is lovely as well but my only gripe is having to choose my food while eating breakfast rather than later that evening.
