Just returned from a 4 night break at the Val Di Sogno (17-21 Sept) and the hotel was fantastic. The Hotel's own website does not do it justice and doesn't give very much information. Don't be put off by the dingy looking pictures of the rooms, or the plastic looking chairs on the terrace - these give the wrong impression (and the chairs have changed anyway) - I nearly didn't book this hotel because of these.
The views from the balconies are spectacular. The hotel is in a quiet position away from the main road and directly on the beach. Food is very good (both the half board dinner and the breakfast). Four course meal is chosen at breakfast - which I think is usual in this part of the world. Other reviewers are right - the wine at dinner is expensive - even the house wine.
The staff are very helpful and speak good german and english, nothing was too much trouble and they did everything they could to be accommodating (even opening my own wine for me on one occasion when I realised I didn't have a corkscrew)
The hotel has an outdoor heated pool in lovely gardens with lots of loungers arranged in the garden and around the pool. There is a table tennis table in the garden. Inside there is a jacuzzi, sauna, billiard table and exercise room.
The rooms are quite large - I think I had about the smallest at 20 meters square and this was fine. The superior ones are bigger and have a sitting area. All rooms have hairdryer, telephone, TV (CNN channel only in english) and air conditioning. They also have an emergency pull in the bathroom which we managed to test by accident - reception rang us within about 10 seconds of pulling it.
