We were scheduled on a cruise leaving from Venice to leave the following day and this was a great hotel to stay at for 1 night or for those wanting to watch their budget. We did not have to deal with dragging our luggage through the streets of Venice and finding our hotel. We took the "blue' bus from the airport (only 3 euro each, takes 15-20 min) and we were dropped off 1-2 blocks within view of the hotel. Great if you're jet-lagged like we were. Our room was quite nice and clean, bed comfortable. The bathroom was nice. The breakfast in the morning was lovely-cappuccino, tea, juices, hams and assorted fresh and yummy croissants and pastries, I am very picky about places and I would have no problem staying a this hotel again.
The hotel is in a district called the Mestre which is basically the area on the mainland directly across from the island of Venice. The Mestre train station is 1 block away and you can buy a ticket (biglietto) to the island (S. Lucia station) for 1 euro at one of the automated machines in the station. It takes about 10 min to get there and the trains run frequently every 15 min or so (not exact) until about midnight. You just have to look at the platform signs to see when the next one is. Remember after you purchase your ticket, to punch the ticket at one of the yellow time punchers you see on the platforms.
However, BIG CAUTION TO ALL: Watch your wallets and purses. I was pickpocketed our 1st night at the Mestre train station. We were coming back around 10pm and there were a lot of people milling about. I am very careful about watching myself and had been warned. But my downfall was having a stylish new backpack purse that I bought specially for the trip! I was careful to put it in front whenever we were in crowds but I'm telling you whoever did it was a magician, because no-one got that close to me for more than a second. I turned my backpack around to get it in front and it was open and my wallet gone. Truly a horrible experience and one I hope my fellow tripadvisors never have to go through. Luckily I had brought the numbers for Visa and my credit union to call and cancel my credit cards. However, it did make it a challenge to get cash during the trip. We were limited to using my husbands card only for cash or credit during our entire trip.
Anyway, the next morning, we decided to just skip the train station and booked a taxi that took us directly to the cruise line terminal in 15 min. Easy but it cost 25 euro.
