Hi there,
My boyfriend and I stayed in this hotel for New Years Eve 2007, 4 nights from Sunday 30th December to Wednesday 2nd Jan 08. We paid £64 per night b&b with Expedia. There are 2 hotels opposite the train station but don't make the same mistake we did and go into the one exactly opposite, the entrance to the Tritone is round the corner to the right.
Getting to the hotel was easy, we managed to share a cab from the airport with another English couple heading for Mestre train station (which as mentioned above is opposite the hotel) and the cab cost EUR 30 in total.
Hotel room was nice, quite up to date, bathroom was of a good standard and everything worked well. Bed was nice and comfy too. Breakfast was of a good standard but don't expect a hearty fry up, continental breakfast is the lay of the land here with some crispy bacon aka American style which wasn't to my taste but may be to yours! Cereal was good though and they had yummy pastries too, plenty of coffee so all in all thumbs up for the brekkie!
Train ride into centre of venice took literally 10 mins and cost approx EUR3 each. You then get on a vaporetti (water taxi) to various destinations (we bought 3 day passes which cost approx EUR 45 each so you could hop on and off any stop you liked all day every day). Venice itself is lovely although if you're like us and not an art lover then 2/3 days there will be plenty. Lots to see and do, for us highlight was New Year's Eve as we got engaged on a gondola! Knew gondola was going to be expensive (cost £80 for 40 mins) but then you don't come to London as a tourist and miss out on a black cab/red bus/buckingham palace etc etc do you so well worth it.
All in all definitely recommend this hotel as it was a fab alternative to the more pricey hotels in Venice itself and was equally of the same 4 star standard. Personally I don't see the point of spending £200 a night on a room in the centre of Venice when you're hardly in it all day because you're exploring beautiful Venice anyway!
