My boyfried and I travelled around Italy for 2 weeks in August 2007 and loved it all, with one exception - Hotel Vittoria, Porto Santo Stefano.
My best advice is to stay away from that place. We paid 200 eur for a room there, which is a real rip-off for a 3-star hotel, but we had no other choice-all other hotels were full, and the night was approaching. The price included half-board (that was the only available option, getting just a room was not possible). Drinks were not included, but 2 meals a day seemed to make spending 200 eur a bit more worth it. Had I known what horror they serve in their restaurant, I would not have even set my foot in that place! I have travelled half the world, eaten in a million dodgy places, but managed to get one of the worst meals, and definitely the WORST Italian food right there, in Hotel Vittoria. And when I dared mention to the waiter that my gnocchi (my favourite Italian dish) were severely overcooked, he had the audacity to tell me that it's the way they should be prepared and I have no reason to complain. The rest of the dishes of our 3-course meal were just as beneath any standard, especially for a 200 eur price tag!!!
As to the rooms, they were rather small and unappealing, the most memorable part of it was a round bed - most probably it used to be part of the owner's furnishings in his home back in the 70ies. And the walls of the room were not soundproof at all, so at 7am we had to witness kids screaming and women shouting in the hallway as if they were right in our room. The pool was very cold and extremely pungent with chloride.
But there was one good thing about the hotel - the view of the harbour, as the hotel is located on top of a hill. But it is definitely not worth staying there. Hotel Vittoria, Porto Santo Stefano, is a real disgrace, and hopefully people will stay away from that place in order not to spoil their impression of Italy, with its great food and hospitality.
