Hotel has a 4 star, but should be 2 star, foutons for beds, plastic furniture in the room, door to breakfast room a fire door. roped off swimming pool, timeshare, two prices for guests and outsiders at pool restaurant, we were classed as outsiders and were not told about this by rep. Tin fruit for breakfast, and not much choice of food. Came home early as when we arrived no room for us, so put in a room for the staff, then moved to a room the next day, then told we had to move again, this was a holiday with Airtours costing £1025 each. So anyone thinking of going with Airtours to this hotel think carefully.

it was a very nice hotel. We stayed there for 4 nights. the views are amaizing. I would not recommend it for someone with bad joints, as there's a lot of steps going up and down to the pool. The breakfast was good but not brilliant.

We arrived into naples airport and took a bus to Santorini which was outside the terminal building - ask at the info spot. It took 1 hr and cost 7 euros. Then we waited at the santorini bus/train station for a bus that went to Positano (a long way around - this also took an hour but only cost 3 euro's each. ) This was a much cheaper option than a taxi from naples airport to positano (150 euro taxi) But it did take double the time! We knew we were getting closer as teh bus turned the corners and we saw the village in sight. It was stunning! I was worried about where to get off but it stopped when we got into teh town at the top of the hill - you get off at the top . The hotel is only a short walk down - if you look over the hill down the cliff you will see the terrace bar. We were impressed at arrival - i had learned a few key phrases but found their english was fine. They were not very forthcoming with maps and information etc. The porter was charming telling us to come to cocktails on the roof terrace in half an hour.
The view from our room was lovely - But the room was bland, the bed hard, and our room was right by the exit to the pool. Seeing as we were there in August all the italians were on hols too and the teenagers hung out by the pool and at the top of the stairs (right outside of our room.) The airconditioning units were horrendously noisy so TAKE YOUR EAR PLUGS. They are also dehumidifiers so get themt o show you how to empty them. I found the tiled floor dangerously slippery and the step up into the small bathroom annoying. There were two sofa beds (singles) in the living room - i pulled one of these out and wrote postcards whilst looking out at teh view one afternoon - pure bliss!
The pool was excellent - we took out own bathing caps - this is standard in all italian pools/resorts/hotels. SO TAKE YOUR BATHING CAP! Or you could buy one from reception. The pool was very deep at one end and was empty most of the time - my partner loved it as he is a swimmer. The view from the poolwas lovely - you could get lunch there which was fine - probably the same dishes from dinner teh evening before. Ice creams and drinks out there were nice as well. Prices were ok for hotel prices. Breakfast was fine - like someone else said about the norm. We had dinner one night - went for the set menu - it was 108 euros all up! An expensive first night! I would recomend Cafe Positano - excellent food and reasonable prices. We had a lush meal at Cafe Terraze - on the beach - so ROMANTIC!!! It was expensive and the downstairs turns into a night club later on. If you wish to take a boat trip on the larger boats you need to be there 10 or 15 mins before sailing - we only just made our sailing to naples. Unfortunately there was a massive thunderstorm which meant that we couldn't see the blue caves in Capri. The beach in positano was small and packed in august. It was hot but bearable. We went to Pompeii - we caught a bus to META a town where we hopped on the train (this was a bit difficult with the train ticket sellers not speaking much english.) From Pompeii train station it was a very short stroll to the entrance. I would recomend taking a tour as we didn't know what we were looking at half the time - lots of walking. There were guides who said they were waiting to gather a group of 10 people then they were going to take off - we were a bit cautious but now i wish we had done a tour.
I would recmend a trip to Pompeii, a trip to Capri, A day trip to Rovello - apparently beautifull we didn't make it - not enough time! There was a boat out on the water that may have been a reastaurant. One night we got pizza from one of the places down by the beach and sat with a couple of bears by the water - lovely after our extravagant meals! The bus stop outside the hotel was great - 1 euro each each way . It goes as far as the town center down the bottom but you have to walk the last few lots of steps down to the beach. LOVED Positano - my fav place along with Paris. Would love to go back - would possibly stay somewhere else.
Most hotels in Positano do not have pools, so we decided to spend the extra money to stay at the Domina Inn Royal. Took a good sized room with a large, lovely, tiled balcony with a nice view. Because the hotel is built into the mountain, you have to go up or down steps every time you want to go some place. If you want to take the elevator you have walk either up or down a flight of steps. Even in your own room, there are a couple of steps going to your bathroom.
Hotel does not cater to english speaking guests. Domina is a European chain and does not market to americans, brits, etc. If you care about this, you will be disappointed. The pool was lovely and clean, but I was humiliated when the lifeguard singled me out to tell me I needed a bathing cap, even though my hair is shorter than his. My husband was not bugged about this.
Positano is probably the most beautiful place I have ever been to. Hotel has a bus stop right outside door (which you get to by going up hill and walking up steps). Beach is in the town and down several flights of steps. Hotels closer to town are also closer to the beach, however, they do not have the views that the higher up the mountain hotels offer.
Every evening we strolled down the mountain into town. Would go back to the Amalfi Coast, but would not stay at the Domina Royal. Hotels in Positano are expensive in general, but I did not feel this one was worth the money we spent.
