“Nice, but not perfect”

Casa Angelina Hotel

19 May 2008

There’s a lot to like about Casa Angelina, but if you’re looking for perfection you may be disappointed. Firstly, the good things: friendly, helpful staff, a great location with lovely views, good breakfasts and large, very clean bathrooms. Our driver was great and kept us entertained with all sorts of information about the area on our drive from the airport. The food at the restaurant was good, although not brilliant, and priced as you would expect ie. Fairly expensive.
If you were paying around 200 - 250 Euros a night, you might be delighted with this hotel, but if you’re paying 400+++ then you’d probably feel disappointed. You might also think it a little steep that breakfast is not included, or that the rooms are of a decent size, but not massive. The balconies, although having a super view, are far from private – I would suggest saving money on the room by not going for a big balcony and just lying at the pool terrace instead, which is perfectly nice.
With premium prices come premium expectations, and the two biggest let-downs for us were the very poor soundproofing, which had us awake at 6am when the cleaning/breakfast setting etc began. The tiled floors mean that those in the rooms above are clearly audible from the moment they get out of bed. We are not light sleepers, but without earplugs it really is difficult to sleep any later than 7am, which on holiday is not very relaxing.
Secondly, in some ways the rooms were victims of their own design. Pure white can be lovely, but when the lighting resembles an operating theatre, the ambience is lost entirely. Try as we might, we couldn’t dim the lighting to anything approaching relaxing or low-key. Even with only one light on, it’s still a very stark space. The curtain/blind over the door to the balcony didn’t work and the ‘wardrobe’ has no door, so the minute you’ve unpacked all semblance of ‘minimalism’ disappears.
Overall, we were happy enough, as we were well looked after, but if I returned to the very lovely Amalfi coast, I wouldn’t stay here again – not unless I happened to get the room for half price, anyway.

My husband and I stayed here in June 2007. This place is by far the most amazing place we have ever been. The accommodations are great. The white rooms are comfortable and enhance the tranquil feeling and surroundings. The restaurant is a bit expensive, but it is great. We only dined at the hotel restaurant one evening. There is another restaurant at the top of the stairs just across from the hotel, that is much cheaper with more of a local flair. The food here was simply phenomal. I wish we had dined here more! Sitting on outside terrace/balcony is a must!

The hotel was very accommodating. We decided we wanted to take a day trip to Pompeii. Within an hour the hotel had a car pick us up and we were on our way. Our driver waited for us while we walked through Pompeii. On the way back, he took us to a restaurant in Sorrento that was owned by his high school friend. We experienced personal attention along with a great dinner and view.

The highlight of our trip was renting the boat and going to Capri. The boat was stocked with plenty of adult beverages and our very own captain. This is a must for anyone staying at Casa Angelina. There is no better way to experience the coast.

I long to return, and you will too.

Keep in mind, this is not the place for kids. Way too nice and tranquil.

A friend recommended Casa Angelina to me and my husband and I couldn't have been happier with it. It's simple, white decor makes everything so peaceful, and the staff is the absolute best. They helped me arrange a suprise birthday dinner for my husband on our balcony in only a few hours notice, and sent someone into town to pick up our train tickets. The restaurant upstairs was expensive but worth it, and the pool was perfectly tranquil. There were two downsides - guests' kids running around (it's just not the place for them) and some noise from the lobby that we could hear in our room...I recommend staying more towards the pool. Also, the stairs down to the beach are brutal, but we chalked it up to our daily exercise. All in all, I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

“Perfect Honeymoon Location”

Casa Angelina Hotel

We stayed at Casa Angelina on the first leg of our honeymoon in August. It was the perfect place to stay on the Amalfi coast during peak season. It was easy to jump on the water taxi to Positano, or grab a car service to go to Amalfi, Ravello, etc., We loved that Praiano is sleepy and quiet. August is busy everywhere, and when we went to visit Positano, though it was beautiful, we were so happy to get back to our sleepy, quiet hotel. If you are looking for hustle and bustle, this is NOT the place for you. The rooms were clean and simple, and we loved the view. Would definitely return!
