There’s a lot to like about Casa Angelina, but if you’re looking for perfection you may be disappointed. Firstly, the good things: friendly, helpful staff, a great location with lovely views, good breakfasts and large, very clean bathrooms. Our driver was great and kept us entertained with all sorts of information about the area on our drive from the airport. The food at the restaurant was good, although not brilliant, and priced as you would expect ie. Fairly expensive.
If you were paying around 200 - 250 Euros a night, you might be delighted with this hotel, but if you’re paying 400+++ then you’d probably feel disappointed. You might also think it a little steep that breakfast is not included, or that the rooms are of a decent size, but not massive. The balconies, although having a super view, are far from private – I would suggest saving money on the room by not going for a big balcony and just lying at the pool terrace instead, which is perfectly nice.
With premium prices come premium expectations, and the two biggest let-downs for us were the very poor soundproofing, which had us awake at 6am when the cleaning/breakfast setting etc began. The tiled floors mean that those in the rooms above are clearly audible from the moment they get out of bed. We are not light sleepers, but without earplugs it really is difficult to sleep any later than 7am, which on holiday is not very relaxing.
Secondly, in some ways the rooms were victims of their own design. Pure white can be lovely, but when the lighting resembles an operating theatre, the ambience is lost entirely. Try as we might, we couldn’t dim the lighting to anything approaching relaxing or low-key. Even with only one light on, it’s still a very stark space. The curtain/blind over the door to the balcony didn’t work and the ‘wardrobe’ has no door, so the minute you’ve unpacked all semblance of ‘minimalism’ disappears.
Overall, we were happy enough, as we were well looked after, but if I returned to the very lovely Amalfi coast, I wouldn’t stay here again – not unless I happened to get the room for half price, anyway.
