When we arrived at Hotel Rufolo, it became quite evident that I had made a very good choice in picking our hotel in Ravello! The view from our terrace was simply incredible!! The photos can’t do it justice, because the panorama from Villa Rufolo on the left to the Gulf of Solerno on our right was absolutely amazing! Every time we went out on the terrace, we were amazed at the view! I doubt if anyone could ever tire of such a view! I’m attaching a couple of photos that don't really do the view justice.
As mentioned in other reviews, the location of this hotel is by far the best in Ravello, with easy access to all other locations. And for 2008 at least, the large construction cranes that are being used to build the new music amphitheater below Palazzo Sasso, Hotel Palumbo, and Hotel Caruso are partially spoiling the view at those properties (photo attached). No such issues with Hotel Rufolo – the vistas are truly magical!
Unlike some other reviewers, we found the front desk staff at the hotel to be very courteous and helpful in every way! The Hotel manager, Rosaria Schiavo, was pleasant and courteous, and helped us arrange transport from Naples to Ravello and then from Ravello to Positano. The breakfast staff was cheerful and prompt, and the continental breakfast was quite good!
The room (216, a junior suite) was quite beautiful, with arched ceilings and was immaculately clean --and the housekeeping staff kept it that way by cleaning it twice a day! In fact, it was possibly the cleanest hotel room we have ever stayed in, which is a testament to the hard work of the housekeeping staff.
The view from the hotel’s restaurant is equally wonderful, the service there was first-rate, and the food was quite tasty (try their lemon risotto for a uniquely tasty treat). If you don't stay at Hotel Rufolo (which would be a shame), you should at least eat at their restaurant to experience the view!
From Ravello, it was an easy bus ride to Amalfi, which should also be on your list of Amalfi coast places to see. We didn't do much hiking becuase I had injured my achilles tendon prior to our trip; but many people hike to Atrani, Scala, and Minori from Ravello.
Overall, our 6-night stay in Hotel Rufolo in Ravello was like something out of a fairy tale, and I hope we get a chance to stay there again someday!
